Ritter’s a quitter

Colorado’s Democratic governor, Bill Ritter, is expected to drop out of the hunt for a second term tomorrow. Did he jump, or was he pushed? This must give Repuglican Scott “McLobbyist” McInnis a boner, assuming anything can, other than a fat sheaf of greasy bills left on the nightstand by whomever he bent over for the night (or hour) before.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper seems to be the beneficiary here, according to the prevailing political wisdom. Which, with five bucks, will get you a cup of coffee. More as it develops.

• Late update: Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) are both hitting the silk, too. Shit, I can hear Traitor Joe Lieberman rubbing one off from here.

• Even later update: In case you have any doubts about whether McLobbyist is part of the “we make our own reality” bunch, check out this from Westword’s Patricia Calhoun. Dude wants to run Colorado and doesn’t even know where it is.

  1. You frickin’ kill me O’Grady… I almost spit out a mouthful of Paso Robles Opolo Zin reading your post this evening.

  2. It was good ol’ Scott McInnis who co-authored the “Healthy Forest Initiative” that legalized the cutting down of many tress (thus, apparently, resulting in a more “healthy forest” somehow). Soon after, when he left Congress, McInnis arranged to leave a legacy in our local neighborhood here on the west slope: the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area located along the Colorado River from Loma to the Utah line. Somehow it made sense to this guy to have a conservation area named after himself even though he’s done all he could to destroy forests…but, whatever. If you’ve ever biked the Kokopelli Loops near Fruita or rafted the Colorado from Loma to Westwater you’ve been in McInnis Canyons. Locally it’s more commonly referred to as McShithead Canyons, but I also hear that the sign in Loma has occasionally been altered somehow to read “McPenis Canyons”.

The takeaway to this story is that this guy is another self-aggrandizing hypocrite, but a uniquely obnoxious one…even by political standards. Governor McInnis would make Owens look fair and honest.

If we do end up with McInnis as governor I may need to leave this state for somewhere more liberal and open minded…like Utah.

  3. What a cluster fuck. As I said a couple days ago, the Donks are quite capable of routinely snatching defeat and shame from victory.

As far as Connecticut, the dirty word has been that Chris Dodd shit his nest by taking a big sweetheart mortgage deal from Countrywide, but the Huffington Post’s Dave Fiderer says that is all smoke and mirrors.

Regardless as to whether Dodd has been Swift Boated, and the Senate Ethics Committee apparently agrees with Fiderer that there is no evidence of wrongdoing, his replacement in the race will be popular and long term AG (Dem) Richard Blumenthal, who has a better shot at winning than a shit-splattered Chris Dodd. Good luck to Blumenthal, and tragic that Dodd should be soiled unfairly. Someone needs to return the favor to the Swift Boat crowd.

    Off we go.
