Love the pic and love the sentiment! It was a gorgeous day!
Most folks know that yesterday was the longest day of the year. Not so well known is that July 4th-ish is the slowest day of the year. As the Earth gets as far from the sun as it will get, conservation of angular momentum combined with a little bit of inertia means that our orbital velocity is leaning towards the laggard side. Everyone knows the 4th of July and New Years for their traditional places on the holiday calendar, but they are also the slowest and fastest days of the year.
We try to celebrate these slow days by drinking a lot of wine, making lots of salsa, and staying clear of mad dogs and Englishmen.
