I think it’s interesting that over on VN.com there are so many defenders of “Choir Boy” Andy Schleck, despite his alleged 5 am pub crawl incident. Certainly when you’ve announced you’re outta there next season the Boss (especially one as controlling as Mr. 60% seems to be) isn’t going to take your misbehaviour lightly. I wonder how those who’ve held Junior Schleck (despite the fact that his bro’ paid Dr. Fuentes 7K euro for “training advice) up as some sort of positive role model will spin this? Who was it that created this black vs white, polarizing situation with Contador (bad) vs Schleck (good) anyway? Did TV’s Heckyl and Jeckyl do this all on their own after the BigTex vs Contador hype faded in LeTour’s first week? They’ve had some help from VN’s JW who seems to have an unhealthy dislike for AC for perhaps the same reason? I’m waiting for the Schleck defenders to figure out how to blame this on Contador — perhaps he and Bjarne set Stuey and Andy up somehow? Some evil person must have led Andy astray — maybe it’s the same person who convinced all or most of BigTex’s teammates to dope in order to help him win those races in France?
Well, I guess that was some pretty expensive beer. Chimay, maybe?
There’s gotta be a whole lot more to this story. First, I find it difficult to believe that Riis would send these guys home if they were staying around next year. Second, my hunch is that Riis’ problem isn’t so much “team rules” (yea, like Mr. 60% cares about rules!) but more to do with who they were out having a beer with (staff and sponsors of the new team, perhaps?). Also, Riis’ response could be explained all the easier if the topic of discussion over that beer was the new team’s efforts to recruit certain new members.
Yea, this had next to nothing to do with a beer.
Riis: “rules are made to be kept”. Seems somebody done forgot about the rule against being a blood-doper if you ask me.
I missed the 5 a.m. pub crawl story, Larry. Where was that?
