  1. According to the NY Times, the Repugs who fought to preserve tax cuts to the wealthy have just blocked an attempt to provide health care to 9-11 First Responders.

Remember that next time these fucktards wrap themselves in the flag.

  2. While our wonderful Congressman, Steve King doesn’t want to continue unemployment benefits because “if you look at the data, people receiving unemployment are far more likely to get a job as their unemployment runs out or shortly after it runs out. So if you pay them not to work, then that’s what they’ll do.” He didn’t bother to mention where those millions of jobs might be so the unemployed might find them. When did Lincoln’s political party become the party of “f__k you, I got mine!”?

  3. Twenty or thirty years ago, Larry.

When I was growing up, Governor Nelson Rockefeller (R) was using public money to build up the SUNY system. Of course, back in those days, NYS was an economic powerhouse, i.e., the Empire State. Nowdays that is a hollow boast.

Rockefeller, for example, took a small college on Eastern Long Island and built it up into a university center so it could become “the Berkeley of the East”. Indeed it has, and is presently a huge economic driver of Long Island and one of the best public universities in the U.S. If I don’t say so myself as one of its Ph.D.’s Our public K-12 system, including the one in the working class town where I grew up, was pretty good too. The Regent’s Exams were serious trouble unless you worked hard.

One has to plant seeds to grow crops. But instead of planting crops, we have been eating our seed corn. I fear we have nothing left to plant. The Rust Belt is going back to nature. Interesting.
