My man Charles Pelkey says he is out of surgery and drinking a nice French red while awaiting the pathology report.
For those of you who don’t subscribe to my wisdom via RSS, drill deeply into comments or follow Charles on Facebook or Twitter, he posted on Facebook as follows:
“Well, I guess I can quote one of my favorite Python flicks: ‘I’m not dead yet.’ Surgery went well. Pathology reports pending. Thank you to all of you who sent kind messages of support and good karma. You guys are the greatest.”
I should be drinking a nice French red myself, because it’s pissing down rain and a flash-flood watch has been issued. But I’ve gotten hooked on this Victory Prima Pils, which is one mighty fine summertime sipper. Feel free to join me in hoisting a glass to Charles, to his family and friends, and to good news from the pathology report.

Rain…I faintly remember when it used to rain here. It would rinse the dust off the plants and make everything beautiful again. Our Buddy Kitty would run and hide under the bed when he heard a big storm coming. Yes, I can still remember the good old days. Here’s a toast from a CP fan all the way from Texas – to many more years of good health and happiness!
Look CFP, we can’t put you on the cart like that, it’s against regulations!
Chin up man….the wife and I are pulling for you over here in NC.
Kick ass and take names, CP. And thanks to O’G for the update.
We had the usual California chardonnay tonight with dinner after long days at the bomb factory. But Charles was in my thoughts–its been too tough a summer already to deal with yet another crisis–a valued colleague (of bicycling and thinking) finding himself in the crosshairs of fate.
If whiskey don’t kill him, he’ll live ’til he dies.
Sending Charles best wishes and healing thoughts. I enjoyed Charles’ pieces in Velonews and as LUG. We exchanged a few emails when I won (!) two “correctly be the first to guess the winner of the stage” during live coverage of GTs and claimed my lovely prizes.
I have also enjoyed and learned much from John Wilcockson’s work, too. I’ll miss their contributions and Ben Delaney’s, too.
All the best CP. I’m sure the future has something great in store for you. First things first though, kick cancer’s ass! I’ll raise a glass of Marechal Foch from local winery Rossignol in your honour.
I went through the surgery then pathology wait with my Wife back in 2005, the waiting part stinks. Charles I wish you all the best and will hoist a glass in your honor this evening, really enjoyed your stuff on VN and hope the future is bright for you.
Get better soon CP! We’ll toast you with a glass (or two) of Sicilian grillo this evening since it’s HOT here, though the horrible humidity and insane temps have taken a break!
All the best to you, Charley. We are pulling for you. Bonne Chance!
Dale in Missouri (where it is as hot as Hades)
Sheesh, CP, it must feel like the clock is moving in slo-mo, if not backwards. Here’s hoping that all the news is good!
