Hey, children, what’s that sound. …

VeloNoise
One bad idea deserves another.

It struck me today, as I was enjoying a leisurely spin around Bibleburg, that this was the first weekend in the better part of quite some time that I hadn’t been confined to the VeloBarrel, shoveling frantically to keep my breathing apparatus above … well, I suppose you could call it water.

Of course, it was also the first weekend in the better part of quite some time that I was “at liberty,”  or “resting,” as Steinbeck said the theatrical people had it, or “down to two part-time jobs,” as I describe it.

This gives a man time to ride, weather permitting. Also to think.

So, as Sunday seems more of a snow day, maybe I’ll do for free what I used to do for money at the other place — watch streaming video of the Belgian and U.S. national cyclo-cross championships and pop a short recap of each up on the Innertubes at www.velonoise.com.

That’s Velo-Noise, by the way. Sound it out: velo-noise. And no disrespect to my fellow Velo-comrades is intended. But it’s a new season, and we’re wearing different jerseys. I’ve just reverted to amateur status — which means I’m doing it for fun, not money.

• Late update: I’m gonna try a little experiment and embed the code for the streaming video over at VeloNoise, just ’cause. I owe it to science.

  1. What a nice Sunday surprise! VeloNoise is a brilliant idea but will you now run TWO sites/blogs/piles o’ crap? Popped over to that “other site” that used to employ you for a look and it seems the comments/debates there have degenerated into even more “you suck”, “no, YOU suck!” than before. My last post there was a suggestion they start a “TELL NICK” or “TELL LENNARD” column since so many of these half-assed, fake-named (of course) morons argue with the experts when they post something that doesn’t agree with their own fantasy world. These folks do the equivalent of telling Eddy Merckx that he knows nothing about racing a bike. So I’ll be happy to slot VeloNoise (despite it’s French-sounding name) into the spot where Velo used to be. Buon lavoro as they say in Italia!

  2. Let’s see, two eyeballs, two monitors, two POG based blogs. Yeah we can do that.

Seems you have discovered the opportunities that open up when some (or all) employment is shed. Riding more, sleeping a bit more, doing things I never had time for more is very full filling. It’s not the slacker life, I’m just differently engaged this time around.

Enjoy and thanks for the new blog.

    1. Thank you, sir. Don’t have any idea what I’m doing, why I’m doing it or where it’s going, but it helps pass the time while waiting for the temps to warm up enough for a short run.

  3. Patrick with all this well deserved time on your hands what about some cartooning? Perhaps a Graphic Novel or two – “Old Guys Who get Fat in Winter: Battle of the Bulge” ..just sayin

  4. T-shirt time! Your VeloNoise logo and slogan on the front with “I didn’t know SH#$ until I started reading VeloNoise, now I’m full of it!” on the back. Put me down for a couple of ’em.
