New job, new house, new roads, new trails — the way from Bibleburg to Duke City has been a long one, but I think we’re finally settling in. Thanks for coming along with us. We look forward to seeing you all again on the other side of midnight.
Happy New Year all! We braved the weather and are in downtown Austin for the year-end music fest featuring tons of bands including the extraordinary Ronnie Spector!
Winter solstice, the “shortest” day of the year, was about two weeks ago, but the “fastest” day of the year is around January 3rd, when Earth goes through the perihelion and is hence orbiting the sun at its maximum velocity (conservation of angular momentum and all that).
So, if it feels as if you’re just trying to hang on during the hectic holiday season, it’s not just in your head — it’s astronomical geospatial relations. The days are short and fast, and we’re all spinning in a slightly different direction while simultaneously hurling through space at around 60,000 mph. Makes for one crazy holiday season. But also one sweet ride. Perspective, yeah?
Amen, Brother Steve. Indeed, there is an astrophysical reason why this season seems to speed by.
With my better half on a plane flying between London and New Delhi, probably over some godforsaken part of Asia as we speak, I’m batching it on New Year’s Eve for the first time in God knows how long. Fortunately, The Doctor had a great blues show on KUNM tonight in honor of the last day of the year.
Meanwhile, a nicely grilled ahi steak (shared to some degree with the menagerie of cats and dogs), baked potato, salad, and most of a bottle of chardonnay later, all is well. Especially since for the first time since I bought it from a buddy who moved to Neeew Yaawrk, I took apart the Mini-14 to clean and more importantly, managed to put it back together again. Assuming, of course, it still works, minus about a quarter pound of powder grit, brass residues, and other grunge. Those wild tofutti beasts better watch out now.

Happy New Year to all!
It’s been an awesome New Years Day down here in Middle Earth.
Just finished some BBQ’d Lamb chops with assorted veg & several beers, (Australian & Mexican), because:
POG, wishing you, Herself & all who frequent the DogHaus,
Happy New Month!
Rent is now overdue.
Congrats on yet another successful 365.256363 day, 583825190 mile, 66610 mph lap around the big ball of fire.

Perspective. Yeah, that’s what I need.

A very Happy New Year to all!
