Huh. Looks like we’re losing a fake Democrat and getting a real Republican out in West Virginny.
Props to Charlie Pierce for the “Pulp Fiction” reference, which itself is a “Kung Fu” reference.
Cracker Barrels throughout the heartland just can’t wait for the diesel-powered Joe Manchin Machine to come chugging through town, rolling coal on all those loony-lefty, bike-ridin’, tree-huggin’ prairie fairies.
Them rubber chickens ain’t gon’ eat theyselfs, y’folly me, Obadiah?

Well I won’t be sorry to see the DINO gone but the likely outcome is someone from WingNut Central taking his place. It’s going to ma me it that much harder to hold the Senate
Yup. The likelihood of an actual Donk taking that seat seem remote. Holding onto the Senate is gonna be a tough hustle, with Feinstein gone and four other Donks deciding not to run. It’d be interesting if the Elefinks took the Senate and the Donks grabbed the House, hey? Something different, anyway. …
That rubber chicken image is just wrong. Kinda like the woman I heard on the trail this morning talking about gluten free mac and cheese. Just wrong. But, now I want some chicken wings. One of my favorite guitar companies, Rainsong, announced today that they are closing down. I think many problems we see in companies, including wordpress, are reverberation of COVID, including their ability to hire an retain good people. Instead we get happiness engineers.
Gluten-free mac and cheese? What is this, Russia?
Bummer about Rainsong. And yeah, people still seem to be reevaluating their worklife/homelife balances “post”-COVID. Our landscaper said he had trouble finding young people to hire — good ones, anyway, the kind who stick around long enough to learn something and become valuable to the company. He said a restaurant owner he knew developed a similar problem, and discovered that her people were all going to work for weed dispensaries.
The grocery stores I patronize all seem to be shorthanded and running through new hires on a pretty regular basis. Restaurants are inconsistent. A retired pilot I know tells me United is having trouble finding and retaining command pilots, which means that jet jockeys with less experience than is optimal may be sitting in the left seat these days.
And don’t get me started about my old profession. Oy. The shit I’ve been seeing in newspapers and magazines lately would’ve embarrassed a bunch of stoners running an underground paper back in 1969.
Rainsong is a small company that made five or so guitars a day. The owner decided to retire. Whether he or she is just cashing out or couldn’t find a buyer, I don’t know. Luckily I bought one of their legacy models, a WS1000, late last year. Can you imagine a guitar with a unique but warm and pleasing tone, impervious to changes in temperature and humidity, never needs a setup or truss rod (there isn’t one) adjustment, and you clean with Maguires quick detailer? That’s my Rainsong. It hangs on the wall in my guitar corner and stays in tune for weeks. What’s not to like?

It’s sad when an artisan closes up shop. Brent and Katryn Steelman went from making framesets to selling vintage rugs — an honorable trade, but I’m partial to a well-made bike myself.
I recall reading that Luigi’s, a venerable Italian eatery in Bibleburg, would be shutting down once the current owner has had enough of the restaurant biz because none of the kids were interested in continuing the family legacy. I’ve been eating there since the Sixties.
Meanwhile, Roman Villa continues on under the third and fourth generation of family ownership and operation. That’s another place I’ll visit whenever I’m in town. I know Amber from the Mad Dog days; she catered last year’s remembrance for our old pal John “Usuk” O’Neill.
Did Rainsong come about from the Zeppelin song? It would seem appropriate. I can imagine if one had a bucket list, that at the top, would be to be able to play the Rain Song on a Rainsong.
Note that as I looked up info on Rainsong guitars, I hadn’t thought of the Zeppelin song.
Rainsong infers that the WS1000 is (was) made on Maui. Would this be correct? Very nice guitar.
It is sad to hear that Rainsong is shutting down.
