Thanks for the emails and comments on the latest iteration of the DogSite. Many of you have asked to be able to add a quick comment rather than crank out an email; others have been asking for RSS feeds. Some just want to be able to target an individual post and forward it to someone in hopes of causing a stroke. This WordPress template lets me grant all those wishes.
There are a few things I still don’t like about handing the site over to a template. The biggest is not having a backup copy of whatever I post stashed here on the old hard drive. My buddy Hal at Hardscrabble Times writes all his posts in AppleWorks before sending them into the ether, and maybe I’ll follow his lead using TextEdit, which is a nice, clean little word processor. In the one cut-and-paste I did from The Daily Dog v1.0, I noticed that the post retained the formatting of the original instead of assuming the qualities of this new, bigger-and-better digital world. Lots to learn, lots to learn. And me so long in the tooth, too.

Patrick,
I like the new site. I can send out a quick comment. It looks clean. As long as it’s cheap and easy to manage, I think you have a winner.
I, too, watched Obama’s first press conference as Pres-elect. How refreshing–I don’t feel like I’m watching a bad reality show when I hear my new president’s grammar/pronunciation/fundamental understanding of how the world works.
As badly as I don’t want to encourage the total collapse of our service/consumer economy because we aren’t shopping enough, I desperately want Obama and the new legislative assembly to tell people to start saving themselves by saving for themselves. Our country has a negative 2% savings rate right now. What that really means is that there are a lot of people who are so far underwater that their grandchildren will drown in their ancestor’s personal debt. I hope this new class of legislators recognize this as a huge huge issue.

I think you’ll eventually move into the world of WP and not look back…
Even Andy Ihnatko finally gave up his attempts to roll his own website and adopted WordPress for the newest iteration of his Colossal Waste of Bandwidth…
Don’t worry, nobody will mistake you for a proponent of Web 2.0 until you start blathering about Twittering…
I enjoyed your comment about Mojo Nixon, who I believe has found refuge as a DJ on Sirius these days…
Still have several of his eruptions archived in vinyl… Hard to believe that he came from NC, just like the late Jesse Helms… Not so hard to believe that he had to head west to find his musical niche…
Hard to believe it, but it appears that NC voted for Obama… by a pretty thin margin…
Maybe we could suggest that Obama appoint Mojo to the NEA board, next chance he gets… Wouldn’t that be a hoot? Nah, the new prez will have enough problems… Won’t really need a Gonzo Libertarian Foghorn Leghorn Imitator in the Bu-rat-cracy… Tempting, though…
I came late to the satellite radio thing, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the efforts of Eddie G. and Bobby Z. on their Theme Time Radio Hour. Highly recommended if you haven’t heard it, yet.
Hope you and yours weather the oncoming economic volatility as best can be expected…
OK you got me at inducing a stroke via e-mailed rants. So, in the hands of a spammer, you are a WMD? Hope the Bushies don’t find out.
