Those of you who follow the DogS(h)ite may recall my remembrance of friend and neighbor Marvin J. Berkman, who died two years ago yesterday at age 85.
His son, Howard Berkman, who played and sang at Marv’s memorial, died last Saturday in Paonia, Colorado. He was just 62.
Families being what they are, the two were not always close, despite sharing a love of music. Here’s hoping they’re getting along better now, maybe even jamming occasionally.
Here’s a MySpace recollection of Marv’, apparently written by Howard.

Well at least these guys won’t be screwed (any more) by the Repuglicans…
I am helping my 80 year old sister out of this vale of tears. Hospice is a blessing and a joy, an amazing gift while our mom is over 100 and wants to join the occupy group in LosAngeles.
I remember reading your post two years ago – hard to believe two years have passed already. Sad that his son died so prematurely. Father and son shared their musical gifts so generously.
Thanks for the epilogue, Patrick. Touching to be sure. I can relate to the sometimes estrangement with the old man. These things are hard.
