The nets are calling it for Newt, and one wonders whether it’s too late to throw up a huge, nuclear-powered electric fence around South Carolina. They’d probably like it just fine, and God knows the rest of us need it.
My man Charles Pelkey, who has actually worked in DeeCee as press secretary to Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.), notes on Facebook that the upside of what Charles Pierce is calling “The South Carolina Primary of Resistance” is that it gives Gingrich confidence — “and the more confidence (hubris?) he enjoys, the crazier shit he says.”
Indeed. As Newt of all people should know, “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” And you just know that the press corps — along with various opposition researchers — are following the Colossal Head around like a bad smell, hoping to catch him and Callista in a Motel 6 shackup with a Communist midget, a Log Cabin Republican and a black goat.

It’s obvious which one is MORE batshit by which candidate the other nut Perry, is backing. If the Repubs. would run someone like Ike. ( I don’t mean Ike Turner ), they could run away with this election. Too bad that Eisenhower would be called a socialist by this mob.
You ain’t kidding. Eisenhower was the last sane Republican president. Nixon would be too tame for today’s GOP.
don’t worry wait till the shit hits the fan. It’s gold for the demos
I’ve said it many times, your political system scares the living shit out of me.
Good old British system here..
Take care there guys.
So we can add a new phrase to the lexicon – “crazier than a South Carolina Repuglican”? How did this guy win, did he show up for the debates there in an Evel Knieval suit done up like the Confederate flag? While I might understand hurbenb crowing about his healthcare system vs the USA’s lack of one, a political system that brought us one of the B’s (Blair, Bush, Berlusconi and Bin Laden) is not much to crow about. Who’s that guy ya got now, Clegeron? As Caribou Barbie might say, “how’s that workin’ for ya?” Geez, I hear fingernails on the chalkboard just TYPING that.
“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for everything else.” Every system has it’s flaws, for sure Larry. The biggest difference I see in Canada vs US politics is the Americans take 2 years to elect an idiot, we can do it in a couple of months.
And of course, regardless of where you live or which form of government you endure, we all must contend with The Golden Rule: The folks with the gold make the rules.
Except for right now here in Italy where the technocrats rule (though it’ll likely be brief) and they’ve pretty much got everyone mad at them…so they must be doing something right. The truckers went on strike here in Sicily and the store shelves (not to mention the gas station tanks) started to look a little empty by the end of the week. The taxi drivers have been on strike a few times and the pharmacists (no, not Riccardo Ricco) are next. The newspaper vendors will have their strike soon as well, nobody likes having their closed guild pried open it seems, just like Romney doesn’t want anyone to see his tax returns!
Geez….Gary Johnson (likely the Libertarian nominee) is looking better (er, more sane) all the time. Hey, at least he’s a biker…;-)
Yeah, Gary washed his hands of those bozos. When he was governor down here, he was always more of a fiscal conservative and social libertarian. Legalize pot, etc. Doesn’t stand a chance running against the Republican Taliban.
south carolina – too big to be an insane asylum, too small to be a nation.
Oh my goodness you make me laugh
I had to move to SC for my job. Very strange place. Someone once told me that the people of South Carolina don’t realize that the Civil War is over and the South lost.
That includes the people across the street from me, flying the Confederate flag. At least the guy hasn’t started any mornings with a Rebel Yell.
I sensed the same thing when I was stationed in Biloxi MS for my Air Force tech school. There were some really cool people in Biloxi, but there were some that were just what you described Brian.
Never lived in the real South myself, not as an adult. I was born in Maryland (The Traitor State), and dwelled in DC, Virginia and Texas as a sprout.
But the Confederacy never quite took root, despite the old man being from Bogalusa, Louisiana, and raised in Perry, Florida.
Must’ve been those formative years in Ottawa, Canada, where I learned French. No wonder I like to cook stuff that wouldn’t give Paula Deen diabetes.
I lived in Bogalusa for 9 years. Worked at the papermill there. It’s a different place, that’s for sure.
Damn, what a great blog!
Hey, Charley … what’s the latest from McDowell? I’m semi-retired and in dire need of some desert time.
Thank Tebow for SC – I was getting worried! I knew the far right wingnuts could NEVER elect a Mormon, and Mitt scared me because he actually could beat Obama. Obama may be a bought and sold politico -but he is OUR bsp…isn’t he?
Well, I’ve heard it said that an honest politician is one who stays bought. …
Rick, I hope you’re wrong because Mitty WILL get the nomination – the Tea Party folks have no $$, just votes and we know they don’t count for much, just ask Al Gore. I have a tough time believing enough right-wingers and independents will vote for Mr. Corporate Raider come November, but you know what my wife says….
What’s up i am kavin, its my first time to commenting anyplace, when i read this post i
