Light snow, big wind

April showers

Oh noes, it's the Blizzard of 2012!

April showers, May flowers, yeah, right, got it. But my idea of “April showers” does not involve a gram of snow scattered across the Lesser Bibleburg Metropolitan Area by 35-mph winds. All a guy gets out of that is cold.

Could be worse, though. Apparently not satisfied with making chumps out of Rick “Governor Goodhair” Perry and Ron Paul on the national stage, God laid a dozen tornadoes on the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where they caused several million dollars worth of improvements.

Elsewhere, a three-judge panel of the 5th Judicial District is in “full wingnut mode,” according to Mother Jones; Gawker’s Hamilton Nolan chats up David Duke’s old gang, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (as I did back in the Seventies, when I spoke with The Head Hood Hisself); and the RomneyBot v2.012 wins the GOP primary in my birth state of Maryland.

But lest you think the contest over, know this: Rick Sphinctorum says it’s only “halftime.” Jesus wept.

I was watching the live radar updates, and I only counted 5 twisters in the immediate DFW area (including one that went by about a mile from my house that I got to watch while chasing the cats back into the safe room)

Opus … glad to hear you and the cats dodged that windy bullet. I covered the aftermath of a tornado here in Bibleburg back in 1979, and it was pretty friggin’ amazing. I’ve seen a few since, from a safe distance, happily.

Disasters in Bibleburg tend to be of the manmade variety: “NO TAXES! You want potholes patched, patch ’em yourselves, you lousy socialists!”

Glad you are here writing about it, Opus. I always thought TX was bad, but never thought it was so bad that God would take out the Almighty Vacuum Cleaner and try to suck it all back up to the Hereafter so he could start over.

“. . .where they caused several million dollars worth of improvements.”

Now that right there is funny.

All this just makes me ever more glad we’re here in Sicily where organized crime is about the only thing in the news. So far we’ve had no contact with any criminals, organized or not. Tomorrow we fly off to Milan, then on to Brussels on Saturday morning. From there we’ll jump into a rental car and blast off to the Ronde museum on our way to a hotel in Kortrijk, where I think Greg LeMond lived for awhile. The Hotel Kennedy there is supposed to be THE HQ for a few of the pro teams during the cobbled classics weeks. Sunday morning it’s off to the Arenberg forest to await the thundering herd of pros. We’ll try to skip ahead and see ’em again at the Carrefour as well. Photos and descriptions should be on the CycleItalia blog next week. Tom Boonen vs Pippo Pozzato and the rest should be an epic day, but for us just being there will be epic! This will be the third of the five monuments for us. Oh, and happy vernal equinox to everyone, though it seems the big celebration with the eggs, etc. is a bit late this year?

I wonder if Perry is going to ask for federal aide.

Just finished munching on portobello spinach quesadillas with red pepper chipotle creme , a fresh batch of salsa, and guac, and currentky sipping a Bristol Beehive, whilst watching our 21 mo old experiment with jalapeños. Rickles and Herr Frothy are the last two things on the planet I want to think about right now.

We just about fell out of our chairs this morning. “Gingrich Think Tank Files for Bankruptcy”. Meena chimed in “of course they did–they are bankrupt of ideas”.
