We interrupt our discussion of the decline and fall in order to tip the Mad Dog top hat to Leon Russell, who like Leonard Cohen has gone west.
I heard him first as half of Asylum Choir, with guitarist Marc Benno. Then there was the Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour with Joe Cocker, the Concert for Bangladesh with George Harrison, et al. Saw him perform once at Folsom Field in Boulder, and wow, what a show. Dude never really stopped playing — he would chat to the audience between songs, tinkling the ivories.
Here’s one of his most popular tunes, and one of my personal favorites. Damn, that Next World Orchestra just keeps getting bigger and better.

What a horrible week
It’s been one of those days around here.
First, The Boo shit in the house. Then Herself imprisoned Mia in the coat closet while garbing up to walk the one-eyed little crapper, which is almost exactly like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted.
Next, distracted by current events, Herself spaced a baby shower she was supposed to attend (in honor of our next-door neighbor and the impending arrival of what is widely anticipated to be Insanely Cute Child No. 2).
And finally, she took a digger on her trail run, collecting a few cactus spines as souvenirs.
Me? I was thinking about mowing the lawn, but now I’m askeered I might run over one of my own feet, or The Turk.
Leon has returned to the source, met up with Joe again, and they sent us a letter.

I have some “Mad Dogs & Englishmen” blasting out of the Mac at the moment. “With a Little Help From My Friends” is on at the moment. Excellent timing.
Two absolute musical geniuses/wizards. Yep, some might fine creativity goin’ on on The Other Side.
