Hoo, nuts around here lately.
The House Back East™ in Bibleburg is under contract (for the second time in a week). Down here in the Duke City, meanwhile, the tree dude is popping round tomorrow to (what else?) have a squint at El Rancho Pendejo’s trees. The Furster, a.k.a. Air Subaru, gets a cautionary peek under the hood on Monday. ERP’s HVAC gets likewise on Tuesday.
And I finally found an affordable bike to review for the Adventurous Cyclists.
Whew.
Also, I got released from jury duty this afternoon. Hauled into court twice in three weeks, but never got to hear a case. Always a bridesmaid, etc., et al., and so on and so forth. Good for about $60 if the robes actually pay a guy for sitting on his ass … which, come to think of it, is what I do for a living, albeit at a slightly higher pay scale and in sloppier garb.
Most definitely not sitting on her ass is my sister-in-law Beth, who with her husband are beating it out of the bullseye Hurricane Irma has sketched on the east coast of Florida.
Herself thought they were bound for Pensacola, just a hop, skip and jump from the ancestral moonshining grounds of the O’Gradys in Perry. May the road rise up to meet them, but in a nice way.

The House Back East, home of Marv and Judy. I hope the new owners feel the good vibes I think are probably there. Might even hear a little small club, one man band music late at night.
It’s a good little place, Pat. We had been thinking that Herself the Elder might want to live there one day, until Herself got the job down here.
Now, with Judy moved into a new place on the west side of town, someone else’s folks may be calling it home.
I hope they like guitar music.
i happen to live in pensacola if they need somewhere to stay, although the storm keeps moving slowly westwards.
Hey, Carl, thanks. Herself tells me they’ve already arranged for a hotel room, but that’s a most generous offer and it is very much appreciated.
You battening down the hatches there? Closest thing to a hurricane I’ve seen is a tornado, and that was a small one, a weirdo that gave Manitou Springs a whack or two back in the late 1970s. Nothing like those beasties that grow in the ocean.
the offer still stands if they need or anything else for that matter.
as of this morning we’re barely in the yellow zone so we’re not doing anything. we don’t do anything until absolutely necessary. we clean up the yard a bit and remove plants and furniture from the porch and maybe board up the front window. our biggest danger is trees falling on the house but those same trees help shield the house from the wind, which they have done for the last 30 years we’ve lived here. the house is over 100 years old and has survived numerous storms.
Sounds like you picked the right house, Carl. Keep an eye out for Johnny Rocco. He won’t be hanging out at Key Largo this time around.
My niece’s family and her in-laws, who all live in Orlando, left yesterday for Atlanta. They reserved hotel rooms there when the hurricane track moved into Florida. Our other niece’s in-laws, who live in Port Orange, leave this morning for Harrisburg, PA on a planned trip to visit family. That niece and hubby leave Seattle today on a move to Port Orange. They will stop in Kentucky to wait things out if they must. Shit.
The bikey folks down that way are girding their loins, according to BRAIN. Meanwhile, up Missoula way, the Adventure Cyclists are probably all wearing respirators and doing rain dances.
Doesn’t look too good for Florida from the spaghetti models. For that matter, looks like Tennessee will get a good soaking and tropical storm force winds. Don’t you or Herself have family in Oak Ridge?
Yup, K, Herself’s mom is in Oak Ridge. The younger sister and her husband live outside of Nashville. Man, these storms don’t play.
I saw on Twitter that Bend is finally getting some rain. Here’s hoping the rest of Oregon gets a little sumpin’-sumpin’ too. Also, Montana.
Between the big hurricanes and equally impressive fires, it does seem to be a tad apocalyptic out there. Kinda goes with the politics.
True dat. We are just fine in Arizona, except we might have to go to war with California over water.
What the fine folks in inside the beltway are hearing.
That Chinese hoax is messing with a lot of folks. Nothing against his neighbors but I wouldn’t feel a bit of sympathy if Mar-a-lago was to vanish due to a hurricane or storm surge.
Remember Bill Cosby before his fall from grace, doing the “Noah” bit?”
“How long can you tread water? Ha ha ha ha. …”
Twelve days to go on the embargo. Sandy is surprised we lasted this long. Me too.
We’re in the home stretch now. Final kilometers, but the bunch is closing in.
We must attack. All the way to the summit, then descend like Il Falco.
That Nicasio looks alot like the Novara Mazama, hope your family in FL gets through everything ok, that Irma looks like a real bitch
It reminds me a bit of the Marin Four Corners Elite I reviewed back in 2016, too. Only a helluva lot less expensive. I kinda wish I’d bought that bike. …
Meanwhile, I hear from Rumor Control that REI is redesigning its adventure line for 2018, so we may see something even more interesting than the Mazama here directly.
