Sailin’ shoes

The Linear Trail at rush hour.

I’m no longer running because I’m apparently a fragile old fart, assembled from stale Olive Garden breadsticks, paper straws, and Tinkertoys.

But Herself is still at it. Denied her beloved indoor group workouts, she zips out to pound ground. Hup hoop hreep horp, etc., et al., and so on and so forth.

Me, I went for a brisk walk. There are worse ways to spend 45 minutes on a sun-splashed afternoon in New Mexico. Most of them involve reading the news.

  1. I gave up running when I got out of the Army. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. But, walking is the best, in town or out. It allows you to see things at the speed of life.

    1. I tried running again after all that surgical down time in 2016. But I had gained so much weight that all I did was injure my knees and ankles. Gave that up real quick and stayed on the bike rather than play load bearing games before I dropped some of the flab.

    2. I miss running. I don’t do it often, or well, but I appreciate its convenience. Minimal kit. Out and back in under an hour.

That said, the walking around here is pretty a’ight too. And easier on the ankles.

  2. That’s not your wife is it? That’s got to be your daughter… right? Right?……

Keep up the running…..photography old chap !

    1. Whenever we are out and about I sez to the wife I sez, “People probably look at us and think, ‘Oh, isn’t it nice of that lovely young lady to take her old granddad out for a stroll.'”

  3. i’ve been walking quite a bit more the last few years even doing some overnight hikes. yesterday i rode down to the bike shop to drop off the new mtb for its service and walked home via the brewery. this morning i got to do a longer than usual walk since the girlfriend opted to take on the dog walking. very pleasant and refreshing. running feels good sometimes but mostly not.

    1. I haven’t done any overnight hikes since we lived outside Weirdcliffe. We did some camping on the far side of Music Pass and east of Rito Alto Peak.

The hoofing in Bibleburg was real good. Downtown with its breweries and beaneries was an easy march from where we lived in the Greater Patty Jewett Yacht & Gun Club, especially if you cut through The Colorado College’s campus, which I always did. Lots of big ol’ shade trees to keep the sun off your dome.

I didn’t look at the coeds sunbathing or nothin’. I was there for the articles.

  4. I’m not sure if I gave up running after the army, or if the army broke me down so bad that running was no longer an option
