Pitiful. Classic example of the absolute worthlessness of facebutt. Why not Turmp? Maybe that’s what we deserve. And I still can’t believe this shit went down in Austin.
Austin ain’t what it used to be. I got a job offer at UT in 2009. We flew down there around the end of the year to kick the tires because a grad school buddy of mine was in the Jackson School of Earth Sciences too so I figured I had a buddy.
Well, we got there. Central Austin is a nice place except for the traffic. While I was talking to faculty, my spouse was seeing what it was like to walk to the Whole Paycheck a little ways away from campus. A pedestrian was killed crossing the street at about the same time.
Then we looked at prices. Mucho dinero. And the sprawl was amazing. Miles and miles of expensive little boxes on the hillsides courtesy of the high tech industries moving in. No public land.
We flew back to BombTown just in time for 3 major snowstorms in January of 2010 and I X-C skied like a madman for several days. Looked around at the snow covered mountains (below) and turned down the Austin job.
I haven’t been to Austin since the Sixties, when we were stationed at Randolph down by San Antone. I would’ve liked to have visited when I was a young stoner, but transportation was an issue. It wasn’t always smart to be a hippie hitching through Texas.
I was last in Austin back in the mid 90’s. I can’t say that I would have liked to have moved there then. I can’t imagine what it is like now. No thanks. Besides, I like bigger hills.
Khal that XC photo is great. I hope that perhaps the trails where you ski will get a nice dose of base building snow from the storm that is blowing in.
Saw some of the video. Kinda reminded me of the first twenty five miles of the Honolulu Century when a lot of people who got on their bikes twice a year tried to form a close knit peloton. What could possibly go wrong?
Hatch green chile harvest time! Go get ’em amigos! I’ll be chasing the Pueblo ones!!
Meanwhile, here in the Bibleburg environs, 89F Monday and 4-8 inches of snow Tuesday. We badly need the moisture, so that sounds good.
I’ll MTB tomorrow AM, before the heat, and then start trying to move/protect plants tomorrow PM before the freeze. Hell hath no fury like Mother Nature scorned, eh?? 🙂
Wouldn’t want to be a dry land farmer in CO. The Palisades peach crop has been a disaster….literally, financially, psychologically.
Again, just to beat a dead/desiccated horse: Take a look at William DuBuys’ “A Great Aridness”.
Can’t even get bad weather bad enough, which is on-brand 2020. The fires here could use the snow, but we’ll probably just get bitter cold to make the fire fighters job that much harder.
The boats collided with the truth and sunk.
…the material just writes itself.
I’ll confess I suspected a Mexican submarine. But adobe watercraft are notoriously unreliable. Badaboom, badabing!
I guess they don’t understand the concept of a no-wake zone.
Pompeo probably did a cannonball off the dock.
Just realized that dude is only one year ahead of me. Class of ‘86. And hasn’t seen the PT track, pull up bar, or his original chin since ‘87.
Foolish boys and their toys are soon parted. I bet Khal is right. Beer mixed with testosterone produces itchy throttle fingers.
Sign of the end-times: no one seems to know for sure whether this is a parody account.
Poe’s Law in full dress.

Not really Austin. It’s the rich land developers and their Contractor buddies at the Lake. Lots of big growth money in this area. Just ask Elon.

That’s the thing. Despite all of the articles, every video gets about 60% hate-comments. Even the one where he mixes up Nike and Mike Pence.
Most def. Watch him burning Nike trainers, socks, red pumps (that he used to wear, and a Mike Pence t-shirt.

Meanwhile … here’s 2020 in a nutshell: 100° with a chance of snow
Heatstroke with a chance of frostbite. You gotta love Colorado.
Expecting near-frost conditions up here, mate.
Fanta Se is Colorado. Aspen, I think. But with better Mexican food and more Texans.

It’s a helluva note when the snowflakes catch fire on the way down.
We’re at 93° right now, with about the same for tomorrow. Tuesday should be 10° cooler, and then Wednesday … 53°?
Saaaaaaay whaaaaaaaaat?
From low 90’s to low 30’s up here in a day is gonna be a real head trip.
