Just a few autumn leaves

Nicely done Señor Perro loco. After the race the riders spent too much time in the brassieres?

  2. JD Says:

Well played PO’G!! I yet again must wonder at the arrogance of calling ourselves homo SAPIENS.

Damn. All this time the Republicans tell us that Marxism is thievery. And this guy makes good. He must be a GOP plant.

So the box from American Bicycle Group is scheduled to arrive today, according to the Fedex web site. Stay tuned…

Oh Boy! Hot Damn. Pins and needles, buddy! Remember, bikes are cheaper than RVs, boats, and sports cars. Guitars are about the same cost as bikes, so I’m just breaking even down here.

You betcha. I passed on a nice custom RV a friend was selling about fifteen years ago after we asked ourselves how many days a year we would use it vs. have to store and maintain it. We decided we could reserve a heck of a lot of nights in a hotel with great dining for the cost of an RV, its upkeep, insurance, and storage. Gave up on sports cars when I sold the Financial Black Hole, aka a Porsche 944 Turbo S (951). And the only boat I would have would be a kayak, canoe, or at most, a cartop small motorboat. That is, if there was any water in these parts. Getting a boat means driving a long way from Fanta Se.

Right now the last optional money sink is the motorcycle. Its gonna go when one of two things happens. One, it starts costing me money I don’t want to spend or two, when my reflexes and ability to ride it start to degrade. Hopefully I will notice the second condition before it gets me first.

I would still like to have a minimalist RV, something garageable that could serve as a daily driver (in these dark days, I drive about 300 miles every five months).

But nobody’s making anything I want. Something like an AWD Toyota Sienna, only not ugly, with a poptop, a bed, and some storage cabinetry. Magnetic window shades with bug screens built in. Stealth, bay-beeeee. Camp under the radar in town with the lid down, save the presto-change-o for the outback.

Don’t need a kitchen; got camp stove and cooler. Don’t need terlet or shower; got a bucket and a jerrycan. Don’t need a TV, stereo, cabin battery, or any other bells and whistles; got an iPad and a Mophie PowerStation Mini.

That said, if someone were to give me a Peace Van Mercedes Metris conversion, I would probably accept it with a minimum of criticism. (“What, no AWD?”)

    Good song for the times.

    The box is here!

Oooh, shiny & new! Very cool. And just my size, too.
Don’t think I’ve seen bottle bolts on top of the top tube before!?
Be interesting to hear what you think of the disc brakes when you get some miles in. My new bike has them and I haven’t made up my mind — except that I sure wouldn’t want to be without them on a loaded bike going downhill in the rain. (Vanishingly thin chance of that actually happening.)
