    1. Black cats are lucky, it’s the white ones that get you in trouble. Unless of course you trip over a black one in the dark.

    2. Miss Mia Sopaipilla is at least part Russian blue, so she’s neither black nor white but something in between, kind of a dark gray shot through with silver. So I have to do the Nursing Home Shuffle if I’m navigating El Rancho Pendejo in the dark. One flat cat and one heart attack later and we’ll both be sitting in the Devil’s outer office awaiting our intake interviews.

  1. Meanwhile, put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

My favorite quote from the piece:

The staff of Live, which transforms into a bottles-and-tables dance club for young professionals around 10 p.m., adores the elderly crowd.

“They have the most fun,” said Chelsea Anderson, a 31-year-old bartender, who has been working the happy hour for 6 years. “Everybody loves each other. It’s a stark difference from the late crowd, where everyone is upset and barfing.”

    1. I stumbled across Jonathan Edwards about the same time I was getting into Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Steve Goodman, Emmylou Harris, et al.

Here’s a fave from those bygone days:

And while we’re at it, here’s another:

    1. Some blasts from the past to be sure, eh? Ours was an eclectic playlist Back in the Day®, from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Parliament-Funkadelic. “If you hear any noise, it’s just me and the boys, hit me! You gotta hit the band.”

      1. Funk? Funny what we discovered, late again, on PBS. The show Bluegrass Underground, now called The Caverns, introduced us to Brandi Carlyle and these guys. They have one of the best funk drummers I’ve heard.

  2. Well that Lettuce funk certainly took the frost off a 17 degree morning here in the Mitten State. Thanks POB!
