Block editor

Once more around the block.

Some of yis have noticed that commenting via Safari seems to have been restored, all praise to Cthulhu, may Its tentacles grow ever longer.

Last night I heard from a code wrangler at Automattic who advised thusly:

This issue has been forwarded to our development team. I cannot give a time frame on when the issue will be fixed but a workaround is to disable “blocks in comments.”

Huzzah, etc. Remember the last time we had trouble with comments? How it forced me into finally abandoning the Classic Editor for the Block Editor, and changing themes to boot?

Yet now, here we are again. Because not only are comments buggered without the workaround, pending a solution from the development team, it could be that the advanced age of my current “new” theme, Penscratch 2, may be part of the problem.

Thus, a tip of the Mad Dog Safari Hat goes out to our own Steve O’, who suggested as much in — wait for it — comments.

Meanwhile, cheers to Jason the Code Wrangler for kicking this thing up the chain of command and recommending the workaround, which works.

While we await the Wisdom from On High I may slap a new coat of theme on an old blog and ask you Safari users to try commenting there. Steve O’ and Pat O’B have been able to comment on this junkpile, which runs on Independent Publisher 2, but I think that theme is a tad long in the tooth as well.

    1. Pat, K, thanks for checking in. I’ve been up to my keister in chores plus a recurring Apple ID misfire and haven’t had a minute to work the site.

All seems well with the WP-suggested workaround in place. We await something more substantial from Higher-Higher, which has yet to address the situation.

      That is all. …

    1. You folks still nosing around for a place out there? I still have trouble envisioning what I’d find acceptable if we decided to pull up stakes and go elsewhere.

Tell you what, though. Joshua Tree doesn’t make my hit parade, based on this week’s episode of Ken Layne’s Desert Oracle Radio.

Always an interesting time of year here in the Mojave, if by interesting you mean ‘haven’t left the house during daylight hours in two weeks.’ Too hot to sleep. … I can’t think in this heat. I try and it just makes my head hurt.

  1. Posted some gibberish. Hour later, hasn’t shown up. Tried again in a difference browser … got a “duplicate comment detected” message.

Like Rosanne Rossanadanna said, It’s always something.

  2. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. But the issue is, is that darn that grass over there sure is getting expensive. Maybe I’ll just stay here where I’m at and enjoy the rural semi-industrial life where the winter’s are dreary, the summer’s are mighty hot, and the dining out food is sub-par. But heh, the beer and wine isn’t so bad and the people are nice and willing to accept that some of us are just, well strange.

What’s that about news? It sure seems as though somebody sure was spending some time last night talking about some kind of happening.
