O, brother. …

Did anyone else think of Pappy O’Daniel when Chuck Schumer shimmied onto the DNC stage last night?

We caught some of the opening acts, but faded early, which was too bad. Because it sounds like it was Michelle Obama who packed her dancing shoes. And her stage was Jesus Hitler’s withered orange nutsack.

  1. Gotta hand it to her. Michelle had it going on. Came across like she was talking to her best friend at coffee, but sprinkled in a healthy dose of policy wonkery and a whole lotta “did she really say that?” moments. I wonder if the wrong Obama got into politics.

        1. Yep. We ordinarily hit the rack at 8:30, but that’s not been possible lately. The herd could’ve been thinned every night, and especially last night. Bill Clinton should’ve gotten the hook about halfway through his act, and John Legend should’ve never taken the stage. I hope Prince haunts him for that shit.

          1. Allegedly Bill was given 12 minutes, showed ’em a 12 minute speech, and then rewrote it to sound “younger and hipper.” His delivery reminded me of every “Oldest Grad” pass and review I ever attended.

(Y’all notice his shaky left hand? I’m not up on celebrity gossip but he didn’t look well.)

          2. I did notice that. Also that as he droned on his head drooped toward his notes and he wound up more or less reading straight from his crib sheet instead of winging it as in days of yore.

Ah, well, ain’t none of us getting any younger. I need detailed notes just to holler at the voices in my head.

  2. Michelle O’bama (just kidding) is a lawyer, right? If so she sure delivered a summation suitable for an award and Barack hit a line drive off the wall in deep center in the cleanup slot. Bernie, Michelle, and Barack I thought gave moving and thoughtful addresses. The rest of them were definitely the B Team if that (maybe AA in baseball parlance), including as you say, Schumer/Pappy O’Daniel.

  3. Insulting Medal Of Honor winners, you know just soldiers who were hit by bullets and others were dead and not good looking anymore, was the last straw. This abomination couldn’t run around a golf cart. I bet a bunch of living POW survivors and MOH winners could get the boy (small b, small o and small y) to sprint a little.

  4. I got to sit and chat a minute with this man at Ft. Huachuca while I was working there. His escort for his visit and speech was a co-worker and we sat together is his office until it was time to go to the auditorium for MSG Benevides speech. I mentioned that I had spent two nights at the Loch Ninh Special Forces camp in June of 1970. He just nodded and said, “I’ve been there too.”

    1. Wow. As Reagan said at the ceremony: “”If the story of his heroism were a movie script, you would not believe it.” I don’t see anything comparable in Cadet Bonespurs’ record. Rap sheet. Whatevs.
