Running on empty

I’d love to stick around, but I’m running behind. …

The power went out at 12:53 a.m., and the heat went with it. The wind is howling, and the snow is flying.

So this is a quick-and-dirty post via iPhone hotspot of a companion piece to yesterday’s post that I had hoped to nail up here last night, only to be derailed by the fabled technical difficulties.

Yes, yes, yes, it’s another abbreviated edition of Radio Free Dogpatch.

• Technical notes: Still using the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Apple’s GarageBand, and Auphonic for a sonic massage. The gunfire comes from Freesound. All the other bad noise is courtesy of Your Humble Narrator.

    1. Nope. It went out at 12:53 a.m. and as of 2:41 p.m. we remain unpowered. Gonna git a little chilly around here tonight. A three-dog night and we only have the one cat who won’t get into the bed with us. Dang.

  1. We lost power for about four hours. Got a foot of snow overnight. So I got my cardiac workout shoveling out my place and both my neighbor’s, as they are even older than I am. And doing damage control: a big branch on one of our large apricot trees is now lying in the back yard.

    1. PNM comes through. Power clicked back on at 3:12. Huzzah, etc.

Here’s hoping we can keep the HVAC blasting out some heat for a while, build a thermal cushion for the promised blizzard. I’ve been dressed for the outdoors indoors all damn day.

      1. Yeah, I turned up the thermostat from my usual conservative setting just in case we lose power again.
Nice to have the gas stove. I could light it with a match last night and we had dinner anyway, lit by battery powered lanterns.
Three cheers for PNM: Pathetic No Matter….but this place is like Long Island. All the power is on poles that can be hit by downed tree limbs.

  2. The podcast was HIGHlarious, especially after a couple of glasses of Malbec needed to calm my nerves. And whilst you are fending off hypothermia, we were dressing modestly for a ride in 60 degree sunshine yesterday. Many a year we’ve been hanging up the bikes by now instead of riding em. And….the sun keeps coming out which is confusing since November is usually when some of us begin going into light deprivation depression and drinking more Malbec than is good for us.
Now as for Canada, only 85 miles from here, they will only let ya in for relatively brief visits so none of your infidel ways have time to rub off on them. Smart that. Keep the cretins in place in USA where they can manifest all the idiocy they can dream up.

    1. Gracias, Herb old wino. My boyz Chris and Merrill have been enjoying pleasant weather in the Californy wine country, too.

A bit chilly here still today and I didn’t feel like breaking another ankle on the ice or riding indoors so I gave m’self the day off.

I miss Canada but not enough to move back to Ottawa. I’m a desert rat now.
