  3. Some of us continue to use old operating systems and browsers. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

    1. The latest from WP is as follows:

      It does seem like this is a bug in our commenting system. When a reader submits a comment and there’s any delay in the response, the system can process the same submission multiple times, which is what’s causing the duplicates you and your readers are seeing.

      We’re currently investigating this, and we’ll let you know once we have more details.

      We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

      Well, that was quick. I just got back from a ride and checked the blog, receiving a “server maintenance” note. Waited a bit, refreshed, and everything save a chat window with support that I’d left open seems to be ticking along nicely.

      I won’t go to manual approval of comments unless I notice (or you folks tell me) we’re still having issues.

    2. I hear you there, Shawn. I haven’t gone to Tahoe on the M4 yet (it’s running Sequoia), the 2014 MacBook Pro is running Big Sur, the ’12 MacBook Air is on Catalina, and the software just keeps marching forward into the past from there, through the ’11 Mini, the ’05 black-plastic MacBook, the ’05 G4 PowerBook,the ’99 G4 Power Mac, etc., et al., and so on and so forth.

      The two G4s are dual-boot setups that can run OSX and the “Classic” OS.

      And then there’s the Underwood manual typewriter. If that fails we’re into the pens and notepads.

    1. Yup. William Fortheringham at The Guardian has some thoughts on fans and haters, crushing victory, heroic defeat, noblesse oblige, and suspicion.

      I can still watch parts of a grand tour, a classic, or an entire cyclocross. But yeah, the passion? I’m off the back there.

  7. Yes, he’s a beast. Impressive riding. Although I just don’t have the passion for watching racing like I used to. It must be due to age and UCI controls fatigue.

    I broke my primary road bike out today. It’s the first time I’ve been on it, or any other skinny tire bike since last October. I had to re-learn the feel of it. But it didn’t take long and I enjoyed a little longer ride. I returned back home in time to watch the free TV coverage of the end of the Tour stage today. Checking out my bike log it appears that 2022 was the last year that I had time to get rides in on more than one bike. It will be nice to add some variety and break out the bikes that have been gathering dust.

    1. Good for you. Get out and ride. Take those roads and trails less traveled. Nothing like breaking a sweat while contemplating the verities. I’ve found some of my best ideas (and shed some of my worst) while making those ol’ wheels go round and round.
