Man, am I ever glad I bought that Giant Tempo. The temp-o outside never got above 15 today, so I was setting tempo indoors on the stationary bike between bouts of snow-brooming. Yes, brooming. We rarely get enough to shovel anymore, though today’s snowfall pushed the envelope somewhat.
I never would’ve gotten away with installing one of my bikes on a wind trainer in the living room. But since the Tempo can be adjusted to suit the much smaller frame of Herself as well as my own massive carcass, it has won approval at the highest possible level of our local chain of command.
Herself generally sets my 12-inch G4 PowerBook on the Tempo’s time-trial-style handlebars and hoots through an episode of “The Daily Show” while riding. Me, I listen to an iPod. No Allman Brothers today — this time around it was Eric Clapton (“Further On Up the Road”), Les McCann and Eddie Harris (“Compared to What?”), Miles Davis (the entirety of “Birth of the Cool”) and a couple snippets of Ornette Coleman (“Sound Grammar”) and Bill Evans (“Everybody Digs Bill Evans”) to bring the ride to a close.

I’d suggest a full load out of FZ in the iPod. I mean, it is Zappadan you know.
Inch and a half this morning. Scraped off the front walks, next door neighbor did my sidewalk earlier. Like you we have this competition with our snowblowers when it gets over 3 inches. Your 15 will hit here Wednesday. Then 20 on Friday for the Toys for Tots bicycle and trailer towing festival and on through the weekend. Bummer, I just need 200 more outside miles too.
Spent Sunday at the Illinois State CycloCross Championship working as a marshal. Much fun and not too cold. Getting bit by the bug and may have to build up a frame for next year.
Happy non-commercial Zappadan to one and all.
try some Jeff Beck
We got 4 inches last night. Calling for another 9-11 more tomorrow aft & evening with 20mph winds, and another 4-6 inches thru Wednesday. HELP!
Uh, Mike Keneally, Guitar Therapy Live, esp. “Lightnin’ Roy”. He was Zappa’s last “stunt guitarist” (after Steve Vai, he of the light-blue hair who never required grooming), and Zappa reputedly said he was the best new guy the band ever recruited.
I’m down in Austin where it is 40’s and overcast with fog. Unfortunately, all my bikes are in Bombtown where my bride is shoveling snow off the deck almost as fast as it is falling. I better bring home something nice….
SacTown received it’s once a decade dusting of Canuck White Powder this morn. A brisk high temp was 45 degrees, with an expected low of 28. Oh, and the forecast is for much of the same with the possibility of freezing fog Wednesday. Sounds like a great time to ride to work in the dark, don’t it? I think that I’ll be driving. Pansy ass that I am when it gets that cold. Or when the bosslady doesn’t like seeing sopping wet bike geek not dressed in a tie. Damn job!
