Zappy Zappadan

Give him your dirty love
Give him your dirty love on this, day 1 of the 2010 Festival of Zappadan.

Pop round to zappa.com for a holiday message from The Central Scrutinizer and relive those glorious days of yesteryear with a video mashup from A Modified Dog via Ketchup Is a Vegetable.

Then shed a tear for the kids of today who must endure what Tom McGuane calls “their stupid fucking tuneless horseshit.”

The faithful among you need no reminders as to the deeper meaning behind the Festival of Zappadan, but for the noobs, Frank Zappa was taken from us on Dec. 4 and subsequently born on Dec. 21. According to Blue Gal, The Aristocrats designated this period Zappadan — “the days of the year between death and birth, that ethereal time when there was no Frank, so we must celebrate him to keep his spirit safe until his birthday again. Or it’s just a great excuse for a party that has nothing to do with the greed and debt festival known as Christmas in America.”

This year the festivities seem largely confined to other blogs and Twitter. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all be happy together.

  1. Thanks for the reminder! I intend to Make a Jazz Noise Here and go Cruisin for Burgers (the version on MaJNH is transcendent).

Snow starting to close in here, and deer hunters. Time for a sedate little dirt-road ride, if I can dig up something orange.

  2. Got out for two hours on the road with flakes blowing yesterday. It really came down after we got back to the shop. Then we watched the Christmas parade from the shop with more flakes blowing- a rather unusual sight here in NC this time of year.

Headed out to watch a local cross race here in a few. It should be fun to watch after the precipitation yesterday. The 45+ is probably getting the gun as I type.

    Happy Zappadan to all.

  3. Of the day, certainly! What better way to commemorate Bummer Nacht then to review the CNN coverage? I guess maybe “of the year” might be a bit of hyperbole, as I have some pretty good stuff coming up. Excellent post though! Merry Zappadan!

  4. I’m going to see da Harry Potter movie with the niece @ 10:30 this morning. I will recover by making T-bones for early supper. Popcorn in the morning, smells like VICTORY!
