Anytime the US “honors” its war veterans I’m always struck by how poorly we treat them after their term-of-duty ends. All the right-wing war-mongers love to go on about how we can’t “cut and run” because it’ll dishonor the lives lost…but the poor guys that survive come back to unemployment, PTSD, etc. and even now the Pentagon boyz are talking of further reduced benefits to retired soldiers. Shame.
Thanks Darwin and all the others that have done what they did to make sure we all get to keep on doing what we do here in the USA- bitching, whining, moaning, working, producing, buying, paying, etc. ad nauseum.
First heard John Prine about 40 years ago when I was an ignorant little long haired snot in Chicago. Taught me back then.Still teaches me when I listen to him now.Thanks.
Semper Fidelis means always faithful. Why we are not more faithful to our veterans once they are home is beyond me. Not to mention all those contract workers who get shot at but are second-class citizen/soldiers as far as the U.S. government is concerned.

As haunting now as when I first heard it.
