  1. “A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labours of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.”
    Albert Einstein

  2. Coming soon to a theatre near you. Baltimore maybe.

Speaking of work, I have been down, more or less, for 2 weeks with a cold and sinus infection. Sandy has been down a week with her cold. Chores and nice work, like planting the garden tanks, has slipped, and riding has not happened for the last 12 days. Plus Duffy’s bum leg decided since we didn’t feel good, he might as well join in. That, plus 2 oblications coming up in May and June, and the High Road ride has fallen off our schedule. We WILL ride with you guys some day, just not next month.

    1. Well, shoot, Pat, that sucks. I’ve been striving mightily to not get a sinus infection, but every now and then something dire comes out of my snoot. Looks like a brain leak. That would assume that the brainpan has anything in it to leak, of course.

Hope you three start feeling better soon.

      1. Thanks Patrick, it does suck. This is only the second sinus infection I have had in my life. The other, two years ago, brought bronchitis along for the ride. Sandy joined me in that outbreak caused by a flight with sick folks coming back from another family visit. Any way we are normally healthy. That is why I am such a sorry patient. I really want to ride the river trail with you guys.

  3. Unfortunately most of the people who would benefit from progressive policies vote against those who promote them. The dark side has a compelling narrative based upon racism, xenophobia, homophobia, 2ndamendmentophobia, and nearly any other phobia their handlers can conjure up.

    1. hammer and pedal wrench, awesome.

I’m going to be making some initial exploratory foray’s up to Cundiyo and Truchas in the coming week or two. Any comers are invited.

    2. Love the photo and shirt! Well done, comrade.

A million years ago when I lived in northern Nevada there was a local bike club in Carson City that called themselves the Carson City Cycle People – CCCP. Their jerseys were bright red with large white CCCP lettering. They were brave to wear that kit in a Redneckistan place like that.

      1. I’d love to have one of those jerseys….

yep. Rock hammer and pedal wrench. Kinda works….

  4. The country must be doing OK. Four million people paid $100 to watch a boxing match. That will allow one fighter to keep up his $6 million dollar exotic car garage. Wonder if it has a car elevator.

    1. I used to love to watch boxing, though I was never any good at it myself. But when Ali hung on too long and got his bell permanently rung, and Roberto Duran sat on that stool and said, “No mas, no mas,” I began to lose interest.

The heavyweights degenerated into low comedy, the nadir being Iron Mike noshing on Evander Holyfield’s ear. A former pug hosted a bunch of us for the pay-per-view on that, and he was so embarrassed that he offered to refund our share of the ticket.

  5. You sick guys and gals are not alone. Yours truly’s been battling various ailments including “acute asthmatic bronchitis” with two rounds of three different antibiotics. Combine this with almost a month off the bike via some other obligations and you can understand how I barely survived yesterday.

But despite all that it was fu__in’ great! And I’m almost back to what passes for normal…and can actually taste food again!!!

  6. Listening to NPR & BBC– What is going on in Garland Texas? What combination of small hat size & pointy high-heeled boots is affecting their collective hive mentality brains? Where is Molly Ivins now that we really need her?

  7. Has anyone heard lately from O’Grady? There was a cyclist killed in ABQ Sunday near the O’Grady estate.

    1. I had email contact with him late Sunday afternoon. He’s under a deadline and Herself is on travel this week so he’s also on solo critter duty. Not surprising he’s radio silent.

      1. Just worried because of the fatality near where he lives. Also APD are a bunch of trigger-happy goons that like to “take out” people they don’t consider “normal” and we all know how well O’Grady gets along with “normal”.

      1. Larry. You know its always the bad news that makes the rounds. I’ve been living in NM for 25 years now and riding bikes around here for 15. I love it and wouldn’t live (for long anyway) anywhere else. Tho sometimes I dream of getting away from the crazy that seems to have infected much of current US society, I’d rather stay and work to pull things in the other direction.

      2. Bad news gets the clicks and the ads. A particularly timely example is the Fox news reporting of a police shooting in Baltimore that didn’t happen.

MD, I feel the same way about SE Arizona. I have been riding here for over 20 years and it keeps getting better from improving infrastructure, bicycle paths and lanes, and better cycling education and publicity. And getting involved does beat the constant search for greener grass.

      3. Spending so much time in “cycling heaven” warps your perspective I guess? I’ve ridden bikes in the east, in the west, in the center of the USA and one thing is constant – the automobile is king and bicycles are toys. I’ve spent enough time in Italy to understand the difference and while Italy certainly has its share of problems, I still believe it’s the best place on earth to be a cyclist or cycling enthusiast. I can watch bike races on the national RAI channels or Eurosport or SKY’s Bike Channel. Once I figure out a way to stay here forever…I will.

      4. I hear you Larry. I suspect that some of us Mad Dog Media readers have lived in many different places and settled in our favorite one. That certainly applies to us. I hope you guys get to do the same.
