Cat on a cold gravel roof

Last night, when I was up on the roof at dark-thirty in a howling gale, using a headlamp and a handsaw to edit a pine whose flailing branches were making Freddy Kruegeresque noises on our ductwork, I sez to myself, I sez, “What the world really needs right this minute is another cute cat video.”

You’re welcome.

      1. Yup. The multi-use path and linear park that I can see from the back patio is loaded with ragweed. Allergies aren’t terrible today because the ground is still damp from yesterday’s rain, but once it dries, all bets are off.

  1. People your (our) age should NOT be on the roof doing anything! I bought a cheapo rope saw for this purpose awhile back. MUCH better than climbing on a roof and trying to saw off renegade branches, you just throw the weight up there, yank the rope until the saw chain’s in the right place, then saw away. The only risks are throwing out your shoulder or being hit in the head by the weight. So far I’ve avoided both.

    1. My roof, Cape Codish, sits at about 45 degrees to horizontal. When I was 38ish I climbed upon it from time to time – but that was in 1987 or so.

      Not doing that anymore.

  2. PO’G: Ever heard of earplugs and waiting until daylight?

And then Larry’s suggestion; or finding some teenage neighbor who wants to challenge her/himself while also having you video it as they conquer the heights of Rancho Pendejo and its natural wonders? 🙂

  3. In my own defense, I will say only that I was surrounded by younger women of the female persuasion who would not climb onto the roof in my stead, and I reasoned that if I did not make the ascent, then I would have to listen to both them and the tree scraping the ductwork all night long and well into the next day.

  4. not to be redundant but “woman” and “female persuasion” it think, are the same thing. could have been more efficient with your words.

  5. I know, I know. It’s a few days late, but that wind looks pretty normal to me. Perhaps that’s why there are all them sail surfers and kite birders about with their travellin’ vehicles all bundled up with adventure toys. I’ve kind of learned to like the wind. That is until I’m bombing down one of our area serpentine downhills…. Woah buddy…..

As for late season house work, with cold weather approaching, the furnace a hiccuping and budget not-enoughous dictates that I’ll be tackling the removal of and replacement of my trust 25 year old warm weather steed. As Coronel Kurtz might say “Ahh, the ductwork…..”
