Back In the Day®, when the cops decided to grab some shuteye during a shift, they called it “cooping.” But this Cooper’s hawk isn’t napping on the job. He’s up early and inspecting the menu from our backyard maple.
I saw this when I stepped out to shoot the sunrise this morning. Our bird feeders have become a bird feeder.
Years ago we had a similar thing happen when the neighbor installed a bird bath that was nominated as a local cat feeding station after it attracted the attention of the surrounding felines
Reminds me of the Tim Allen gag from “Men are Pigs,” where he’s talking about building a bird feeder only to remember that he doesn’t like birds all that much. So he builds it a couple inches off the ground and presto: combo bird/cat feeder.
Yep, we’ve had a few of those within a shout of the ancestral manse since we moved here. Looks like the boyfriend copped to this one.
It was just around the corner from those apartments that a couple of scumbags ambushed a man in his own driveway as he was leaving for work. He was not their only victim over a two-week stretch.
And then we have this fine young fellow, who celebrated his 15th birthday with a perp walk and a shout-out to his mom, who must be s’proud.
It sure encourages a fella to walk around town with his eyes open.
Hawks be smart.
This one sure is. He scares the doves into knocking themselves out on our picture window, then enjoys a leisurely meal. Barely has to crack a sweat.

Rapt in the trees…
Not sure why I thought of this, but Happy Thanksgiving all!
And of course tomorrow’s quintessential song.
Happy thanksgiving Khal and all gathered here in the Dog Haus!
Officer O’Be?
Getting close to home, Patrick.

Sometimes it seems we are living in a Harlan Ellison short story.
