Cyclocross! Getcha cyclocross here! Get it while it’s hot!
OK, so more like “Get it while it’s cold and sloppy.”
• Late update: Congrats to Katie Compton on No. 15! Damn, I love watching her race. She puts on the Great Stone Face, hangs out the “Open for Business” sign, and goes to work serving out heaping helpings from that 55-gallon drum of whup-ass.

The Turk is a champion sleeper. I wish I could bag the Z’s like that.

Aside from a mild backache and a little bit of stiff leg muscles, I woke up today. It actually worried me: running at a month short of 65 having not run in several years. As I shuffled and gasped down the River Trail, I kept thinking “Jim Fixx, Jim Fixx”.
Back on the bike today. See if the traffic can get me.

Waking up is good. Especially if you wake up on the right side of the lawn.
I rode one of my ’cross bikes today in honor of my homegirl Katie Compton. Wore the Bog Trotters jersey, bib knickers, and SuperCup socks. I have a stars-and-stripes jersey from USA Cycling but it’s a special edition (for being a wiseass).

Pulled out the old Cannonball CAAD5 for a road spin today. It hit fifty up here and not too much wind, so those roads north of Fanta Se towards Tesuque beckoned.

Archival picture as you can see from the lack of snow.

Sweet lookin’ ride, bro. Got a similar ratio on my road rig.

Always interesting to me to see the number of “Replies” vs. topic/age group/male/female/, etc. here at the Mad Dog Media watering hole.
I’m sure, PO’G, you have an AI program that’s analyzing that data for you and will soon unveil it to us so we can use our own AI “executive assistants” to skew the responses as we prefer. Whoops, would that be called social engineering ….or cyber-wrafare? 🙂
50 degrees F and bluebird skies here today in the Bibleburg environs…..got 1+15 of 7-on-a scale-of 1-10 perceived effort on the MTB and 1+45 on the golf course (don’t ask my score).
Hope everyone is ready to enjoy the upcoming solstice (N or S hemisphere … got ya covered, Hurben) and looking forward to 2019!! 🙂
Ride on!!!!

Thank you, all good down here.

Anyone who wants to run in the mud can come to old Sorry Vista. It’s been raining for 3 hours. I know, I live in AZ and shouldn’t complain about the rain. Listen, this shit won’t change the long term drought or the planet cooking. It’s just weather. And it stinks. To high heaven.
December 17, 2018 at 12:52 am |
Dunno, I’d think folks in those droughty places would think “every bit helps” when it comes to free moisture from the sky? I read somewhere that AZ is really drying out…sooner rather than later?

You are right Larry. I shouldn’t complain about the rain. It should help next spring during the fire season. But, the bottom line is that Arizona, like 6 other states that depend on Colorado river water, are in deep trouble for water supply. And, we are also depleting our aquifers. This is mostly due to greed and stupidity, including from out of state land owners who came here to take advantage of grandfathered water rights. Saudi Arabia is one example.

Yep, and unlike tony Santa Barbara where my in-laws live you guys have no Pacific Ocean to desalinate. Sicily’s had some issues in Palermo of late, but I don’t think things are as bad as the SW of ‘Murika…a place I have no desire to ever live in again.

If we could distill water out of bullshit we’d be golden. Just run a hose from every city council, county commission, state legislature and Congress to a series of reservoirs.
The water might smell a little weird, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Raining for three hours? Chihuahua. Maybe you need to change the name of the place to Nada Vista. Agua Vista?
Dry as a bone here, and chilly in the mornings. It’s a tossup between bundling up and riding 10-ish (as per usual practice) or waiting until afternoon, when it’s a shade warmer but the sun is low in the sky, raising navigational issues, especially on single-track.

No dirt riding for me today. Probably go for a walk. Should be able to ride tomorrow. I like riding during the holidays because of much less traffic around here during the week between xmas and new year day.

that single speed race looked brutal. i wonder if there is any rule against ditching the bike at the first pit after the start, running the whole race and picking up a bike at the last pit?
December 17, 2018 at 7:26 am |
There is always a rule. No forward progress without a bike. You take too many bike-free steps while negotating a handoff in the pit with the wrong zebra watching and you’re hosed.
I often wondered whether I could get away with a bicycle earring. But I suppose it would have to have regulation-size wheels and a working front brake.
