King Lear would be freestyling on this afternoon’s rain, yo.
There’s a whole bunch of the boom-boom-boom going on around here today.
But lucky for us, it’s only thunder. And the only thing raining on us is, well, rain.
Who was first to the “thoughts and prayers?” I had Ted Cruz in the office pool.

We have too many fucking lunatics in this country to also have a Second Amendment. I don’t think this is what the founders had in mind (and you know me, I’m a board certified gun nut).

Who sacked the copy editor when they were putting the Bill of Rights together? That’s what I’d like to know.
Of course, odds are that, being a copy editor, he was drunk on the job.

Reloading a musket was slow. By the time you got ready for a second shot at the 1787 version of WalMart, the neighbors would turn you into a tree decoration.

I had trifecta of
• thoughts and prayers
• now is not the time to politicize this
and
• if only there was a good guy with a gun
Problem is, so much action on those three horses that it pays bumpkiss.

This being Texas, I imagine that there were more than a few people packing heat in that Walmart. The “good guy with a gun” theory, like Walmart shoppers and Dayton bar-hoppers, has more than a few holes in it.
August 4, 2019 at 6:44 am |
Yeah, and the biggest holes are in the first dozen victims while we’re waiting for the Lone Ranger to show up.
Sounds like this guy just ran out of bullets and threw up his hands, was casually walked into the precinct for finger prints and mug shots. So I’m assuming from that that he’s white.

“Mass shootings are common in the United States. On Sunday, a teenage gunman opened fire with an assault-style rifle on the crowd at a food festival in Northern California, killing three people before fatally shooting himself.”
That was from the Reuters article about the shooting in El Paso. Common. Some more hatred started up by “we are full” dumpster.
Storming down here right now. It has been raining on and off for two hours, and the lightning is close enough I am thinking of shutting this old iMac down. Later!

It thundered, blew, and rained sideways here for the better part of quite some time. I threw open some doors and windows to take advantage of the cooling breeze, but had to close them again as the interior was in danger of getting power-washed instead of vacuumed, as Herself intended.

250 now, with the shootings in Dayton. Jefferson was right. The Constitution should not be viewed as a fetish object but rather a living document, trimmed, trained and pruned as necessary. The fucker needs some work, is what.
But can you imagine calling a constitutional convention in this day and age, and what might come of it? ¡Hijo, madre, puto, cabron!

Couldn’t get something like the ERA passed, which is so controversial because states’ rights. So, yeah, the heavy lifting ain’t gonna happen without a crisis. And simply letting Russia elect our prez doesn’t count as a crisis, so no idea where that marker is.

They are common here. And, will continue be so.
Nothing will be done because the casualties are peasants. The oligarchs can get more from Norway, unless Bolton declares war on Norway.
And you think problem migration is bad now, wait till global warming passes 3 degrees celsius. We ain’t seen nothing yet.
As Carlin said about out politicians, “this is the best we got.” Think about that before voting for an incumbent. Maybe Yang or Williamson are better choices. It’s what got us the dumpster. What do we have to lose besides everything?

I think of these mass shootings every time someone asks why I’m not afraid of the mafia in Sicily, especially as we have an offer in on a house there at present. I think the chances of being gunned down in the USA are greater than pretty much anywhere in Italy – Sicily included.
August 4, 2019 at 8:16 am |
And yet we marvel at the growth of online shopping. When was the last time the UPS guy pulled an AK-47 on you?
Hope the Sicily thing works out. Make sure Clemenza picks the guards for your gate. Not Tessio.

The house we’re trying to buy is just around the corner from https://www.siracusainstitute.org/app/the-institute/ and even closer to the local office of the Carabinieri on the island.
As I told an Italian, it’s NOT organized crime, it’s the DISorganized crime…but even those folks are not into shooting at civilians much.

Need some good news, if only as a small distraction?
Here goes … on her 7th birthday, my youngest got to hear Dave Towle fire up the crowd as he jokingly announced her to be the first 100 mile finisher at yesterday’s FOCO Fondo. “Look at this kid’s form, she looks like she could do another 100!”
Woke up this morning asking, did I really win?
Nope, I did.
August 4, 2019 at 1:27 pm |
Well done indeed. Keep that kiddo pedaling. The industry needs her.

Off to get a new bike as we speak …

Indeed, I would feel safer in Sicily where the mob only shoots people who are tangled up with the mob. Well, usually. I’m not sure who the Ferraras from Villarosa tangled with, so who knows? I might run into a 120 year old grudge. There musta been a reason why my grandfather and grand-uncle both changed their names and not to the same name. Honey, hand me the lupara…
What worries me about this joint called the United Snakes is I fear we are headed into low intensity civil war. Just wait till the Antifa folks figure out how to tell the muzzle from the breech. Between bad social media (apparently the El Paso guy had a ranting, right wing missive), bad politics, the trumpster, and climate change driven resettlements, what can possibly go wrong?
The pols and talking heads are already talking about buyback of ARs. But lemme guess who is least likely to turn theirs in among the 20 million or so out there. Frankly, if Texas wanted to ban them they could tomorrow since no Federal court has overturned an AR ban. Someone once said a Republican like Nixon had to go to China. Maybe a red state has to lead the way on firearm sanity. We can either have hate filled social media or be awash in guns. If we have both, its like having fuel and oxygen. All you need is the match, and they are a dime a dozen.
Like Scrooge said, I’ll retire to Bedlam.

I have to admit the bad guys are not always the best shots, as n innocent little girl was hit by some really lame mobster in Napoli while we lived there earlier this year. Didn’t even kill his target…and then the cops nabbed him to boot! And of course the minister of interior here is a Trump wannabee, so it’s not all prosciutto e melone, but I’ll take it!
Sounds like our offer on the house was accepted, so we could be moving in next month if all goes well 🙂
