‘What’s all this stuff I keep hearing about. …’

I’m feeling a strong kinship with Emily Litella these days.

“What’s all this stuff I keep hearing about DikDok and ChapSnat? I remember when you paid money to the telephone company! The telephone company never paid money to you! And you watched TV on the TV! Not on the telephone!”

I know, I know … since the first proto-influencer sketched a warthog on the cave wall while his elders looked on disapprovingly (“Fuckin’ kids today, amirite, Ogg? Minding the fire isn’t good enough for ’em anymore.”) some entertainment-delivery system has been poised to bring society crashing down around us.

Cave paintings. Comic books. Radio. TV. The Innertubes.

But damme if I don’t think the smartphone will be the tombstone of civilization, such as it is.

Fuckin’ kids today. Hey! Influencers! That’s my goddamn lawn you’re dancing on up there, y’know! The last one I’ll ever have! Get the hell off of it!

There’s nothing wrong with America that can’t be fixed by what’s right about Gilda Radner.

    I have spoken.

Love this. Hit me smack dab in the head and made me smile, Keep up the good work Patrick – Chris

Social media and smart phones (just small computers)are addictive and designed to be that way. Total bullshit. The question is if they went away tomorrow, would we really miss them? And Patrick’s Chuckle Hut is the best thing since sliced bread and canned beer. Mr. O’Grady just needs an open mike in a nice venue and a sophisticated audience, and he would make enough money to buy some new kit and that GS-Mini he has been drooling over. Then he would be too busy to give it to us for free. Never mind.

We aim to please, Paddy me boyo. Don’t always hit the target, but we’re out there pitching.

Meanwhile, I’ve been thinning the “smart” herd around here. So far I’ve traded in an iPad Mini for credit on future Apple purchases, if any, and recycled two iPhones and one iPod. I’m waffling on the iPod Touch (2nd gen.), which I use as a kitchen timer-slash-jukebox. But the battery’s on its last legs, so maybe it goes away too.

And the iPod Nano is on thin ice after it stopped recording steps and mileage for some unknown reason during my hike yesterday. Laid down on the job it did. We don’t ’low no slackers around here.

My iPod Touch’s battery is losing its mojo too. I bought a generic USB charger cable for it, took off all data except music in CD quality, and leave it plugged in next to my Onkyo receiver with Bluetooth. Jukebox indeed.

That was a great show back in its early days. I remember that skit!

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

The glory days, Bubba. Bass-O-Matic. Samurai Night Fever. Steve Martin and King Tut. (Did you know the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was playing on that one under the pseudonym The Toot Uncommons? True fact. Martin and the NGDB shared a manager.)

  5. khal spencer Says:

Wonder if this would fly today.

Godfather Therapy. As a third generation Italian-American….I love it!
