There and back again

Hm. We’re gonna need a bigger coffee cup.

I don’t think we’ve had a snowfall of any consequence this winter. Of course, now that I’ve said that, we’ll get hammered, probably tonight. — Your Humble Narrator, yesterday

Ho, ho, etc. I’m rarely right, but when I’m right, I’m right. Right?

I tumbled out of bed at stupid-thirty this morning to see if I needed to clear our black-diamond driveway for Herself, and glad I was of it, too, because I had to clear the sonofabitch twice.

The first go-round I broomed about an inch and a half of not-insubstantial snow off our slippery slope. When I turned around at the bottom to inspect my work I could see that the rematch had already been scheduled.

So after coffee and toast I had another go at it. Call it three inches of snow all told, which ain’t too shabby for these parched parts.

Once I was finished the lab fired off a message saying nobody needed to come to work until 10. Because of course they did.

I guess it takes a while to fire up the orbital space lasers Sandia uses to clear The Duck! City’s streets, what with all the batteries being earmarked for electric Hummers and whatnot.

Either that or they’re all tasked with vaporizing Chinese spy balloons.

Say, maybe that’s not snow. Maybe it’s vaporized Chinese spy balloon. Does that crap melt or just hang around being a pain in the ass, like George Santos?

      1. I’m surprised they didn’t make him Chair of the House Ethics Committee! Just kiddin’!
Can you imagine trying to teach integrity, honor, and ethics nowadays anywhere?

  1. We’re hosting the Canada Winter Games starting this weekend. The forecast for tomorrow, 7 degrees C and rain. That just ain’t right for eastern Canada in February.

  2. Yesterday people were flocking the GOLF courses in FEBRUARY in MICHIGAN for chrissakes. Temps in the 50’s and sunny and then….cloudy with 40 mph winds and some rain. Bluebirds are house shopping in the back yard two months early. Boy are they in for a surprise. This is the Mitten State after all where we once got 21 inches of snow for St. Paddy’s day. Think the tow trucks were busy that night? I ain’t a puttin my snowblower away by jingo, no sir.

  3. Currently 71F in the Great Eastern Forest, a week before Ash Wednesday. I’m certainly not complaining, but I’ve probably just jinxed it. Last year I was blasting the concrete front steps with the Horrible Freight propane torch from hell, which hooks up to one of those RV sized tanks by 6 or 8 feet of hose. I can even dry the iced-up north facing steps with it, while fire-trimming the encroaching ivy. Probably take a bit too long to toast a whole driveway at oh-dark-thirty, but worth considering for problem spots.
Excuse me, I think I’ll go for a ride now, before the jinx sets in.

    1. We just barely squeaked above freezing today. The driveway is clear, but the wind scattered some of the untethered snow around when I wasn’t paying attention and now our walkway is a skating rink. Good thing we weren’t expecting any deliveries from the Brown Truck Dude today.

    1. Wow Hurben! It looks from the photos like flooding on the larger rivers, flash flooding with debris flows on creeks and streams, land slides, and cyclone force winds. Are you and yours OK?
