Naw. That ain’t trash, waiting to be packed out. It’s just old, like its operator.
So don’t pack us out, for pity’s sake. Ain’t neither of us ready for the scrap heap yet.
Speaking of old trash and scrap heaps, I finally heard from the WordPress people about the comments issue, which seemed to have resolved itself to some degree after my last complaint on Nov. 22. Quoth WP:
The comment reply box has changed to the new box that adds the options of styling or layout changes using blocks. It cannot be disabled, it is the new default.
Fear not, your visitors don’t have to use the blocks, they can simply click into the box, and start typing.

A limited inspection of the process indicates that leaving a comment is once again fairly straightforward:
1. Place your cursor (or, depending upon your mood at the moment, “curser”) in the “Leave a Reply” box and start typing.
2. You will then be presented with the option of logging in using a WordPress account, Facebutt, or email (the latter method wants your email addy and a name; providing a website is optional). Select a login method.
3. You also are prompted to have posts/comments emailed to you. The buttons are off by default. Make another selection.
4. Hit the “Reply” button at lower right.
I switched laptops and launched Chrome to try commenting using an old email address. But I was not logged into the Gmail account I wanted to use and got a prompt saying so (O, buggah, etc.).
Rather than dive down that rabbit hole (usernames, passwords, and shit, O my!) I switched to Firefox to post my comment and saw it had me already logged in using my WP info.
I don’t have a Facebutt account so I couldn’t evaluate that option.
Anyway, that seems to be where we are at the moment. We don’t have to face that quadruple-decker “Reply” box with all the arcane symbols belonging to WP’s Block Editor (curse its name, yes). Just start typing and let ’er buck, cowpersons.
Anyone still having issues? Leave a note in commaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

I’m still waiting for the cookie to pop out of my DVD drive slot. Didn’t WordPress say we were going to get cookies when we made a post? I mean my coffee is getting cold !
I don’t know about cookies, but I am getting plenty of horse apples from these folks. …
Hold on their partner….ain’t that there ride fabricated from that magical TI-TANIUM tubing? I’m told it NEVER gets old and crotchety and is always limber and ready for the next cattle drive or single track. Best not be making no aspersions about it lest it decides to go bucking bronco on ya.
That’s the very stuff, Herb old cowpuncher. I chatted briefly with a young feller riding the latest plastick-fantastick gravel bike and he was most impressed with the old rig. Naw, not me, the bike.
How’s trix in the Great White North? Up to your spurs in snow yet?
Well we HAD snow with a nice 4 inch of fluffy base. Got us thinking about bringing the xc skis out and prepping them. Now it’s rain and gray skies so instead thinking about knocking off another Pinot Noir bottle and listening to some Joe (Gattling Gun) Walsh.
About those plastic bikes…had me an early version from Miyata that on a big downhill descent, got to oscillating like a cat’s tail when a can of tuna is opened. Almost augered in and still can’t believe I got it slowed and survived. To their credit Miyata accepted the banjo frame back and replaced with Cr-Mo. Call it carbon, composite, resin engineered, whatever…I’ll stick with steel thank you.
My man Hal says the XC skiing up to Leadville likewise leaves a little something to be desired. Apparently the trail wizards didn’t make a good base of an early snow (15 inches in October) and then the fatbikers rolled onto the trails with their muddy rubber and the snowshoers with their dogs joined in and now the trails are buggered all to be damn.
That young fella was sure making his plastick fantastic do the ol’ rock-‘n’-roll hootchie-koo. But yeah, it’s steel for me. I’d do more titanium if I could afford it but the bike I seem to ride most these days is the very reasonably priced and nicely equipped New Albion Privateer, with its Tange Infinity main triangle.
We (Columbia River Gorge – river level) just got our first light snowfall yesterday and last night. It’s a nice white morning. My XC Skis are anxious as well.
Regarding XC skis, I sold (via the venue I believe you said herself uses) a pair of them to a fellow racer up in Los Alamos. Your name was brought up (money and snark was involved) and he indicated that your paths crossed paths quite a few times when he resided down in Al-b-que. Apparently he coaches the area XC ski team up in Los Alamos.
Herb, I recall inquiring about the early Trek MTB bikes that they fabricated (layed up) from carbon. That was back in the early ’90’s. Apparently, the early models had BB structural problems. Those frames were full carbon. I think Easton, Cadex, Univega and others built up carbon frames with aluminum lugs. I wonder how many of them have lasted through the years. I can’t imagine that many adhesives are able to withstand the years of stress in a bonded lug. Ti is indeed a fine product. I am pleased to think that at one time I made enough discretionary income to purchase a Ti frame. It’s an MTB frame built in upstate NY back when he crafted frames himself. It sure is a “purty” beast. I’m sure it will outlast me.
Ti when you are working and steel when you’re retired? Never had a ti bike. When I retired,I tried to find a Litespeed Veneto but failed, and instead bought a Trek Pilot 5.2 to replace my Cannondale Road Warrior. The frame geometry was virtually the same. Put a set of Mavic wheels on it and road the hell out of it. I also bought a Trek 520. After a few years I was spending more time on the 520 than the Pilot, and my steel bike journey began. Wan’t long after that all the bikes in the garage, Sandy’s and mine, were all steel. Trek, SOMA, Fisher, Niner, and Salsa. “The secret of steel.”
tried to reply on John Nichols passing dumped me three (3) times.
This seems to work as I have a WordPress pw. But I keep hitting “notify me of new posts” and nothing happens.
Well, lads, lacking any solid evidence to the contrary I’ma rule that my insistence on hewing to the Classic Editor and a retired blog theme may be the culprit here. We’re all rocking different hardware and software from various eras modern and otherwise, so I can’t make any calls based on that. Too many variables.
I’m continuing to play with current themes and the Block Editor over at an old WP blog I keep around as sort of a sandbox. If I ever get comfortable with the new whizbangs, doodads, and comosellamas, which to date I very much have not, I’ll make the jump to light speed and see if we discover a more user-friendly universe out there some’eres.
Well, I have a comment out in the ether somewhere. If this one makes it, I say make the jump to warp speed. We are in with you bro!
This one made it as a guest, instead of logging into my WordPress account. I had a typo in my email address so ended up as a guest. I guess?
The email login seems real specific, so I expect a typo would derail a comment. Remember, when I tried to comment using an alternate email address the sonofabitch knew that I wasn’t logged into that email account and told me so, Bronx-cheer style: “Pppppffffbbblllllhhh.”
