Almost all economists agree that taxes on imports are, in fact, passed on to consumers. Why? Because that’s what the evidence says, and it’s very hard to come up with an alternative story.
On the other hand, Trump loyalists — which these days means almost the entire Republican Party — insist as a group that foreigners, not American consumers, pay taxes on imports. Why? Because Donald Trump says so. — Paul Krugman, “Trumpism, Stalinism and the Tariff Debate.”

I imagine Joe Stalin is looking at that picture and turning over in his grave.
He said that ‘Mexico will pay for the wall’ too. That didn’t happen. Obviously his record on such matters means nothing to his followers.
As others have said, the most surprising aspect of Trump’s rise to power hasn’t been Trump himself, it’s that so many of our fellow Americans are so fucking stupid. I figured he’d inherit the Tea Party crowd and be good for, at most, 30%. But no. Good god, he’s over 40%, maybe even 45%.
More worrisome is that the Stupid Party is likely to expand. Making educated voters capable of critical thinking takes effort; but to make a voter for the Stupid Party is easy, just do nothing.

Ho ho ho. Jesus Hitler knows nothing about paying for things. He stiffs everyone stupid enough to do business with him. This is how he stays so “wealthy.”
And man, are you ever on the nosey about the Stupid Party. You’ve heard of Mensa? The SP is their opposite, Dense-a.
Daily con, perhaps.
