No foolin’

Sign of the times.

“Is this how you’re spending your retirement money?” asks my old velo-comrade Charles Pelkey. “Check the sponsor at the bottom of the sign. Bwah ha ha ha.”

Apparently it’s a billboard in Michigan, though it looks like a Photoshop/A.I. kind of thing to me. Wasn’t my doing. Hmm, lemme think here … who do we know in Michigan?

      1. Yea, the Mad Dog PAC seems to be a real thing. I think you are right about the image; it’s either photoshopped or AI. Like the dumpster, it doesn’t look natural.

I always wanted a SOMA mixte frame bike. Herb is trying hard to get me back in the saddle again.

  1. Naw…still working on parts wrangling and getting a 105 triple crank off another bike which may take some C4 explosives. As for that billboard, that looks exactly like something I flushed down the thundermug a few minutes ago after a big cup of Sid Vicious coffee. Same squint to the eyes and I’ll bet that billboard gives off an odor worse than a 50 year old septic field. Back to the Soma…..I am having to relearn derailleur capacities and chain length specs as well as sort through the zillions of stem choices. Jeezus, there are a lot of options for rise, clamps, length, finish. If I could just get into POG’s garage…..and I’ll bet he’s got 700 x 32 tires just a-hanging by the dozen

    1. More SKUs than you can use, hey?

As regards rubber, I’m light on 700×32 — got a couple used Conti 28s, some newish Donnelly 38s and 35s.

Soma has its 33mm Shikoro Kevlar in stock for $69.95 apiece. Good, durable tire, made by Panaracer. Rivendell has them for $66. Looks like the more affordable Everwear is out of stock.

I managed somehow to take a big bite out of a barely used 26mm Panaracer Gravel King, which really pissed me off, because (a) barely used, and (2) a bitch to mount on the DBR Prevail TT’s Neugent wheelset. These bloody tires are too fuggin’ pricey to burn like thin shit going through a tall Irishman.
