When HAL runs HR

“I know you still have the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. But. …”

I’m rarely gobsmacked by journalism lately. Familiarity, contempt … you know.

But damme if this piece from Josh Tyrangiel at The Atlantic ain’t a sure-’nough stem-winder.

The question is “What will A.I. do to jobs?” And the answers come from right, left and center, from tech CEOs to academic economists to Steve Fucking Bannon — yes, that Steve Fucking Bannon.

It’s smartly reported and cleverly written and the accompanying graphics from Stephan Dybus are top notch.

You will probably not find the story comforting, as it considers the irksome human factor’s effects, if any, upon the Rise of the Machines. The long and the short of it is that where job security in Meatworld is considered, A.I. will either be just ducky or something like a pickleball dustup in Florida.

    1. Herself and a gal pal used to enjoy some pickleball of a Sunday over to the local Y, until some mansplaining douchenozzle horned in and started trying to run the railroad his way. Now she just goes there to lift and hopes the sonofabitch is otherwise engaged.

      1. Oy.

What the hell is it with testosterone poisoning? After decades of struggling with head-up-my-ass syndrome, I fight poor male judgement everyday.

Sorry to hear good fun doomed by some asswipe dealing with small penis compensation issues. Unfortunately this might only be met with eye rolls and a discreet conversation with whatever entity claims ownership of said court. Don’t hold yer breath expecting resolution.

  1. Bannon is still a scumbag, and always will be. He goes out the door, wets his finger, and holds it up in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. That way he knows what color smoke to blow up your ass when he cheats or deceives you.

  2. I’m still leaning, hard, towards Cory Doctorow’s conclusion on the future of AI. Dot Com, TV preachers, bundled mortgages, predictive modeling, Crypto, AI, and trump pushers all have one thing in mind, getting your money. All will die in the sunlight save AI. It will be very useful in some specific processes, but will it replace the power of the human brain? No, because human beings were made in god’s image. If the disgusting arrogance of that statement doesn’t make you gag, send me 100 bucks, and I will share my secrets with you.
