My old comrade and colleague Steve Frothingham pinged me over coffee this morning, double-checking another velo-bro’s contact info (the one and only Charles Pelkey, star of stage, screen, and TV).
Seems the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is assembling a fresh conclave to vote on potential inductees and thought of tugging on the Live Update Guy’s coat.
Now, I happen to think that Charles would make an even better inductee than voter. I mean, the man has been there and done that, wearing more hats than the performers at the annual Country Music Association Awards.
Asking CP to vote on HoF candidates seems kinda like ringing up Les Claypool and asking, “Hey, you know anybody who rocks?”
But what the hell do I know? I guess some of us are just destined to roam that old back 40.
Without the typical long winded blah, blah, blah, I’ll come out and say that both you and Charles should be in the Bicycling Hall of Fame. (Note that as I write this I haven’t checked to see if you aren’t already in there). Your work and efforts have helped maintain my interest, and I suspect others, in the sport when we may have decided otherwise, to fade away onto the pickle ball courts. I’m not idolizing you or Charles, but indicating that I really appreciate that you’ve had the interest to write, post and publish about something that I’ve also been interested in. I bet there might be more than a few of the current living inductees in the Hall that would agree your presence there would be recommended.
On a humorous note, it would be really funny to think that some misguided individual would recommend as an inductee, the biggest loser bozo that used to put on an East Cost bicycle stage race, at the same time that you were an inductee, and the biggest loser bozo fails to get any votes (including the recommenders), and you do and are accepted in.
