Holy hell — here we are, on the last Hump Day before Election Day,. when we should get some idea about who’s going to get humped for the next two years, how, and by whom.
Doomscrolling is never a great idea, even in the best of times, which these are not. I do it anyway, of course, because once I was a journalist of sorts, kinda-sorta, and old habits — especially those of old scribes — die hard. This is particularly so when there’s a blog to feed.
Anyway.
In my wanderings around the nation’s main streets and back alleys I find a great deal of optimism about the midterms. Lots of celebration with time on the clock and yards between here and the goal line.
Keep hope alive, y’all. But let’s get to that end zone before we start dancing in it.
Consider this an open thread. Give us your hopes, dreams, and fears. But first — vote.
It is pretty much a done deal as far as Federal elections up here in the 3rd District. It is Donks vs. Tomato Cans, as SFNM columnist Milan Simonich often comments in the paper. I don’t know enough about the Rethuglican candidates for 3rd C.D. or U.S. Senate to know if I would dislike them, and will have to look up their names. My legislator is running unopposed, as is 46th District incumbent Andrea “Whistle Pig Whiskey” Romero of Regional Coalition of LANL Communities Mismanagement Infamy. Her district starts right down the street.
So I remain unimpressed. I will vote against paying the legislators. As far as I am concerned, they should be fired, not paid, given that NM is the perpetual lanterne rouge in all the good stuff and on the winner’s podium in the bad things.
Our elections in the Land of Entrapment are evidence that George Carlin was right about elections. But I’ll trot down the street anyway and as Carlin said, make my meaningless gesture…not that one. Bah, humbug.
