Fans of Charles Pelkey’s live updates from top-shelf bike racing as seen at VeloNews.com will be pleased to learn that he hopes to continue providing them via his own website, LiveUpdateGuy.com, during the Vuelta a España, which commences mañana.
Unlike consigliere Pelkey, I am not an attorney. Nevertheless, I don’t consider that I am violating my contract with Competitor Group Inc. by noting that VN.com will not be providing live updates from the Vuelta, by Charles or anybody else, though you may expect the usual post-stage journalistic virtuosity from Andrew Hood, Graham Watson and a cast of … a cast of … well, it ain’t gonna be Cecil B. DeMille, but just pop round the site for a look-see anyway. Hoody and Graham are always worth a good, long glance.
Meanwhile, the occasional high-powered guest may appear at LiveUpdateGuy.com during the Vuelta to provide keen insight, cogent analysis and witty repartee. I may drop in, too.

Thanks for the heads up. Love the banner for the site w/ Hinault throwing down. Classic.
Good to see CP up and at ’em! Thanks for the link, O’G!
Too cool. Can’t wait.
Anyone doing live updates on the Tour of CO?
Gents, someone will be doing live from the Race of Many Names Powered By Many Other Names, as Velo is the official media partner of same. I haven’t heard whether CP has cut a deal with management.
How have you folks been liking his free-lance live from the Vuelta?
Pelkey was saying on the LUG feed today that he and VN are talking about doing the Tour de Sandwich au Toast.
I think he mentioned a meeting scheduled for today about it.
Can someone tell me why I should be excited about any of these races? For some reason I’m finding it tough to care much. We thought about heading to CO for what was the Toasted Sandwich event but instead we’ll be visiting Chicago to take care of some business. Haven’t worked up much enthusiasm for La Vuelta yet either…maybe once they hit some real mountains and the field’s thinned down to the real GC men? Nibali’s already won this so he sort of has everything to lose with not much to gain. I’m sure by the time World’s and the Giro di Lombardia (since we’ll be there, already reserved a room along the Ghisallo climb) get going I’ll be paying keen attention again.
Meanwhile, BRAVO Charles!
And speaking of the toasted-sammich folks: Feast your peepers on this here from The Denver Post.
From the Post: “Quiznos continues to close doors, and same-store sales continue to fall. The issue is, when does Quiznos hit bottom?”
Not good news for toasted sammich bike races. Not everyone can be so lucky as to find a little pile of sand on the ocean floor as the boat hits the bottom. Wonder how Wolfgang Petersen would end this script.
I can see it now: Das Bite, a chain of submersible sub shops.
I like Quiznos, there’s one just down the hill from us. Also, the local proprietor is a cyclist himself, and opens it to us for our New Years day ride. A toasty sandwich and hot soup hit the spot, especially when it was -30 for the ride a couple of years ago.
I’ve eaten at the original Quiznos in Denver, but that was many moons ago. I’n kind of partial to a regional chain, Il Vicino. Bristol Brewing does the local eatery’s beer and the Wet Mountain IPA is very tasty indeed.
Il Vicino does a very nice job if you are in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Up in BombTown, decent restaurants are few and far between. I’ve hit the BombTown Quiznos from time to time, but usually end up in our own home kitchen or the new food co-op if I’m that close to home.
For breakfast burritos up on The Hill, El Parasol no ka oi, but one is slumming almost anywhere in Los Alamos compared to Fanta Se or Albuquerque as far as restaurants are concerned.
Yay Charles!
