Boom-Boom pounds ’em on the pavé

Chapeau to Tom Boonen for a manly win at Paris-Roubaix — he didn’t much care for the pace of the group he was with, so he shelled them and soloed 50km for the V.

Big props, too, to Sébastien Turgot, who picked Alessandro Ballan’s pocket for second place in the Roubaix velodrome. Conventional wisdom aside, sometimes it’s smart to look over your shoulder, guys. Sheesh.

Meanwhile, right about now Mike Wallace is interviewing God: “So, what’s with all the contradictions in your book? Care to set the record straight?” Why anyone ever answered the door when Mike showed up with a camera crew remains a mystery to me.

And matches De Vlaeminck’s record of 4 as icing on the cake. Dude was a monster today; a fitting winner for sure. I just love P-R. I was lucky enough to see the race in ’72 when Roger won his first one – an experience I’ll never forget. If you love cycling, it’s a trip you have to make before you die. Larry and Heather were heading north from Sicily to catch this edition I think. Hopefully he’ll chime in with a report.

And ditto your remarks about Wallace OG. One of the last real journalists.

It’s nice to see Boonen back on top this spring. After some bad form, injuries, and some dumb personal decisions, the sport needed this badly. It’s just too bad Fab C wasn’t there to challenge an on form Tomeke. That would have been interesting.

Patrick, as regards your last sentence, it’s the reason that Joseph Coors said that the four scariest words in the English language are, “Mike Wallace is here.”

I clicked rewind on my DVR while watching the replay that night because I couldn’t believe someone had jumped back on!

I’m waiting for the hammer to drop on Boonen. I’m generally suspicious of anyone that owns the peloton like this anymore. I hope he’s clean. I hope he’s clean. I hope he’s…

… awww hell. Hope’s got nothing to do with it!

I hear ya Tom. 52KM is one HELL of a long way to solo off the front like he did. And I can’t believe everyone just sat up and said: “Oh well. Tom’s gone and there’s nothing we can do about. Let’s just coast in…”

Well, as Luca Scinto said, they’d not seen that since Ballerini or Tafi – two ITALIANS for Pietro’s sake! They shoulda known better!
