Interbike 2014: Homeward bound (part one)

A room with a view.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (MDM) — Another Tour de Interbike is nearly in the books. The penultimate stage is today (Flagstaff to Albuquerque) with the finale tomorrow (Albuquerque to Colorado Springs).

The Mad Dog Media nerve center at the Luxor.

The Mad Dog Media nerve center at the Luxor.

It was the usual nutty cluster of fuck on the show floor, and thus my best-laid plans for bloggery gang aft agley. My cell at the Luxor was as far away from the action at Mandalay Bay as one could be and still be in Las Vegas, so my dogs were barking so loudly by the time I got “home” that I just tumbled into bed. Mornings were spent over at helping Sir Charles wrangle the Vuelta.

I did another round of that this morning from my sunny suite at the Hampton Inn in Flag’ — a mighty improvement from the Luxor it was, too — and now I’m fixin’ to head east at high speed for Duke City. Mister Boo is not the only critter in the house with a bed now, thanks to Herself. ‘Oorah, etc., et al., and so on and so forth.

Tomorrow I’ll be taking that left turn at Albuquerque that Bugs was always missing. I wonder what the cats have in store for me? Best not to think about it, the way Bugs never worried much about Elmer.

I would rather be pitching a tent in Flagstaff, than in the best hotel in Las Vegas. It’s so beautiful there. Good luck on your moving preparations. It’s good to be able to have ample time to make the move instead of tight deadlines to get everything done yesterday. Less stress.

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

Me too, Sharon. Vegas is a hellhole. Last two years I’ve never even left the Luxor-Mandalay clusterplex. I’ve just dashed into town and then dashed right back out again. Awful place. I may give it a miss next year.

Welcome to Arizona, for a few hours anyway. Did you get over to Late For The Train for a cuppa a joe to go?

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

No, Pat, and dammit. I worked right up until checkout time and then blasted out of town. It was nuts in Flag’ … there was some giant soccer tourney, an NAU football game and a concert slated this weekend. It’s a wonder I could find a hotel room. Thank Buddha for Hilton Honors points.

I’m happy I avoided Lost Wages this year. I got no closer than St. George, UT to visit my Dad before leaving for Italy next week. I don’t envy you PO’G…the effort to set up my new digs in Rome is little more than unpacking a suitcase and seeing what’s for dinner. Meanwhile, I’m having some of the folks who will look after our little shack on the prairie while we’re gone over for some chow tonight. They’ll (I hope) enjoy prosciutto e melone, spaghetti con salsa crudo (pomodori freschi, aglio e basilico) and then a porchetta-style (garlic & rosemary) roast with roasted potatoes. The last of the CO peach crop will be cubed up and served bathed in moscato wine for dessert. We can’t pay these folks what it’s worth to look after the joint, so the least I can do is feed ’em now and then.

Interbike, meh! Lots of nothing, really.

Although I did hear that WTB will be offering a new tire in a new wheel size!!! That should be interesting for those of us too late to the 29, err, 27.5 bandwagon. 559 should be the best one yet!!!

Other than that, I got nothing…except to ask “when are the OGWGFIW jerseys going to be released?” You know, important stuff!

  5. bromasi Says:

yeah! what about those jerseys, were you just teasing.
