Once again…..”In their Pocket”, so to speak!

    Too small to fail?

Meanwhile, Guerrilla Gravity based in Denver, CO has come up with a new process and approach (patent pending) to building carbon MTBs here in the US of A.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the skills of your marketing-mavens combined with your advertising and promotion budget are way more the keys to success than what the thing is made from, where it’s made or who actually performs the labor to make it. These could be the greatest bikes on earth, but the Big S, T and G will do their best to make damn sure you don’t see any of ’em at your LBS, unless their name is on the downtube. Sad, but true.

Bigger fish keep swallowing smaller ones. I guess when it’s all evolved, there will be only a handful of companies left. Gigantic ones…with one voice…

Does that mean the “Friday Foaming Rant” may again grace the pages of Velonews? That would really be a full circle deal that might even put a little extra kibble in the Mad Dog’s dish. I would subscribe for it.

Never happen, Paddy me boyo. That ship has sailed, been boarded by pirates, looted, set afire, and sunk.

      • Libby Says:

Sorry, Patrick! ( see below)Spent too much time looking for ad free version of song didn’t refresh browser!

      • Patrick O'Grady Says:

No worries, Libby. I think I pretty much wrote myself out writing “Mad Dog Unleashed” and doing the “Shop Talk” cartoon for Bicycle Retailer plus the “Foaming Rant” and cartoon for VeloNews. Ate all my seed corn, drained the well, let the fire go out with neither flint nor tinder to be had for a thousand leagues.

It’s been right nice not to have to do commentary to size for multiple deadlines. Drawing the “Shop Talk” cartoon for BRAIN and doing an occasional bike review for Adventure Cyclist is just my speed these days.

    • Pat O'Brien Says:

OK. I’ll just get my rants here and on Radio Free Dogpatch. Come to think of it, that’s alright!

On a side note, pun intended, a guy is moving into our neighborhood from Bolivia, and he is a guitar player. He came over the other day to help this poor beginner play a little. When he pulled out the finger and thumb picks, along with a gorgeous Santa Cruz dreadnaught, I knew I was in for a treat! It was, and we are going to play together more often. He is going to help me adjust the action on the A12 when I change strings this weekend. Going from the Elixir lights that the A12 came with to D’addario flat tops lights.

Reunited! Patrick, I hope that they, “regret the moment [they] let you go..a way of learning so much…cause [they] need your touch…there’s one perfect fit.”

I’m one who doesn’t think the “Boulder Mafia” should be owning BR&IN. Kind of like Fox News taking over 60 Minutes?
They might as well merge the two titles together – Bicycle Enthusiast and Retailer News? Feel the BERN!

  6. NOt Jusuk Says:

    just my speed these days

    What you have speed?

  7. Herb from Michigan Says:

Patrick you might remember-before there was Fox News there was Bill Quinn and Bicycle Journal. We used to laugh our ass off reading his mild rants/slants. Talk about the two martinis lunch…Bill knew how to treat his advertisers.

I remember those daze, wasn’t it BBJ Bicycle Business Journal? And the annual show was BDS Bicycle Dealer Showcase if my memory is correct. And the SOPWAMTOS folks gave out their “awards”? Those were the daze!!!
