May we have your liver?

“A census taker once tried to test me.”

While sipping my morning java and traipsing idly around the Innertubes I happened upon this at the Bob’s Red Mill site.

Out of fava beans?

And we just got our census forms in the mail.

If Chianti is on backorder too, I’d say life is busy imitating art again.

  1. Huh…..mebbe, mi amigo, the fava bean shortage isn’t such a bad situation given the previous post’s Blazing Saddles predicament. ???
Then again, the old cowboy/girl campfire camaraderie romantic mystique always was a bit of hot air, eh?

  2. Trending items on Amazon: fava beans, chianti, butcher’s knives, and the 2019 edition of Gray’s Anatomy (the book, not the tv show).

Donners, party of 5, you can be seated now … wait, wut, party of 4 now?

    1. wasn’t sure how to spell gray/grey, so I DDG’d “grays anatomy” and of course it assumes I meant the TV show and corrects my spelling to “grey.”

it’s one of those words that, the more you stare at it, the more you’re convinced you spelled it wrong.

    2. I knew I pulled my Grey’s off the shelf the other day for a reason. Although it’s a 1977 edition…, rusty scalpels and all.

Fava beans? My culinary talents (frying fish sticks and tater tots you know), are lacking in knowledge as to what a Fava bean is. Is that where hand sanitizer comes from?

The white beans, garlic and cheese skillet didn’t turn out to bad. Although mi salsa likely wasn’t as good as su salsa. I used Monterey Jack cheese as well. I’m partial to that with beans versus the Mozzarella. I sprinkled some fresh cilantro and green onions on top and paired it with a couple of tortillas. Next time I’m going to chop up a very small habanero and mix it in. I love the flavor of fresh habanero and a small one will give just a pinch of heat.

      1. Yeh, I add chile to pretty much everything. A jalapeño at least. A sprinkle of dried chile pequin or caribe along with the chopped cilantro and scallions. And Herself is all about the Cholula hot sauce lately.

We still have a couple cans of black beans on hand, so I think I may try the companion recipe tonight. I made a batch of red rice last night and the two should pair up nicely.

        1. Cholula has also become our favorite. I think it is because it made from a blend of pequin and arbol peppers. Most others just say red peppers on the ingredient list. Cholula has a smoother and slightly smoky taste for me, and the heat is gradual not instant.

        2. Hey hot sauce lovers…..if you can find them, give some of Mrs. Sharp’s a try……muy excellente!!!

          1. PO’G et al: Si senor! Incredible products by incredible people for incredible reasons and advocacy!! Try some!!!!!

  3. If’s ya want some stellar hot sauce get your mitts on Boulder Hot Sauce Company Smokey Serrano. Bought two cases and now down to my last bottle. WARNING it’s addictive as hell-lots of flavor and modest heat. I am trying my level best to duplicate it and made several batches but can’t capture their zen.
