More, late*

A little light and a lot more tunnel.

“Pandemic Deal by Congress Provides Economic Relief, for Now,” reports The New York Times.

But it’s too little, too late, and perhaps the last of Uncle Sammy’s pennies in the ol’ tin cup for a while, adds The Old Grey Hoor, in an analysis by Ben Casselman and Jim Tankersley.

The injection of money comes months too late for tens of thousands of failed businesses, however, and it may not be enough to sustain unemployed workers until the labor market rebounds. Moreover, it could be the last help from Washington the economy gets anytime soon.

Call me cynical, but I think we need some brighter bulbs on this job.

  1. Solstice AND “The Great Conjunction”! A double-feature!! Surely the Gods are smiling on our little blue orb and better times lie ahead?

      1. Yes ,PO’G, we’ve been observing every other evening …. watching the alignment get closer and closer. Tonight should be clear and we have a great viewing location in our neighborhood.

PS: Observant readers should be able to see what I tried to do with “Solstice AND “The Great Conjunction”!! (Hint: Focus on AND.) 🙂

        1. Need to check my notes but I think, in our lat/long, you need to get out before 6:30 pm to see it. Lowish, south/southwest. Six-thirty means I still have an hour before bedtime!

      2. I pulled out the Newtonian a few days ago and have been watching every night as the two orbs close in on each other. Its pretty cool. We have a pretty good view in the back yard.

Now, if only Rod Serling was alive to write an epilogue to “The Midnight Sun”

  2. Gee, congress gives money to those who don’t need it, puts the total amount on the credit card, and does part of it’s budget work 5 months late. They should be on the PBS program, “Great Performances.” But, you know they gotta go on holiday break.

I will give this stimulus money to American workers by buying American made stuff from American companies, hiring American workers, or giving it to a charity. Maybe all of the above.

    1. Don’t forget, we have $15B for Space Farce, so at least the people who lost their jobs don’t have to worry about Tralfamadorians, Maldalorians, Cardasians, Bolians, or Borgs (oh my!).

    2. Gah. I hope they don’t toss greenbacks out of the backs of trucks indiscriminately. We gave all if it away to charity this past spring. Wouldn’t take a dime of that money.

      1. Dude, it’s gonna look as well thought out and executed as the crazed Jesse chucking fat stacks of blood money out the window of his Toyota Tercel in the final season of “Breaking Bad.”

  3. Nice to pass out crumbs to the peons when you starved, cheated and not done anything else for them. Gee put a trillion into infrastructure, education, training and food distribution to the people congress and the president have cheated and lied to for the last four (4) years. Benefits would be ongoing and available to future generations. Look at the New Deal. What a concept benefiting people and not big business and wall street. Plus infrastructure would benefit companies like Caterpillar, Ford , G.E., Deere G.M.., et all with American Made goods, Novel Freaking Concept. f^%king idiots,

    1. Chapeau, John. You’re right. The only thing we give to the next generation is a mountain of debt from wasteful spending. Just think how many roads, bridges, and dams they could have repaired or updated. And the lying con man will fleece that base of his until they all finally admit that he is not worth spit., and not even that. P. T. was right, one born every minute.

    2. You fuggin’ commies. Everything must be privatized, from prisons to privies. Where’s the profit in having Big Gummint and the Nanny State do everything for you? You think Wall Street got where it is by building things? Hell, no! Where are your bootstraps, men? Find them sumbitches and give ’em a good tug, if your skinny limp wrists can bear the strain.

          1. Hard to find but the George C Scott version is up there on the list. That guy could read actuary tables for two hours and I’d pay to watch it.
