  1. Speaking of the Turtle, from a comment in the New Mexican:

“…McConnell was asked by a reporter about concerns among voters of color that their right to vote is coming under attack.

“Well the concern is misplaced, because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans,” McConnell responded.

So African Americans “are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans.” As Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan said in a different context, “Now don’t that beat all.”

  2. The problem is congress not the presidency. Has been since, well, hiw about 1979? The turtle’s weenie has been there since 1985. No one is willing to flush the toilet. They just shit on top of the existing pile. Angry people threw an orange grenade into the place trying to fix it. It just made it worse.

    1. I think Americans focus overmuch on the president because that’s the only office we all vote for (when they let us).

But the fact of the matter is s/he doesn’t really pack that much of a wallop. Particularly with a 50-50 Senate, a slim edge in the House, a 6-3 Supreme Court, and a sizable portion of the electorate a bat or two shy of a full belfry.

I’d say electing more Democrats might help, but I’m not sure I could do it with a straight face. Trouble every day.

  3. Fact is, the high office of the executive branch doesn’t mean much unless the executive branch has a super majority of the legistlative branch. And that doesn’t mean much unless the party of the executive branch has a majority of the various state branches of government. And that doesn’t mean much if the state executive branch doesn’t have at least parity in the very local offices in their domain.
