“I wouldn’t be doing any of it if it weren’t for writing,” he said, looking back on his career, in a 2006 interview with the online magazine Country Standard Time.
“I never would have gotten to make records if I didn’t write. I wouldn’t have gotten to tour without it. And I never would’ve been asked to act in a movie if I hadn’t been known as a writer.”
“Writer” was the occupation listed on Mr. Kristofferson’s passport.
A writer indeed. The Old Gray Lady has the obit.

Thanks for the link. They didn’t paywall it, and that says something about the man.
The owners of the music store told me a story about their Aunt Flo. Her house blew up when she went into the indoor swimming pool room, didn’t smell the gas from the leaking wall heater, and turned on the lights. They said, “They say you can’t take it with you, but Aunt Flo did.” Well, when I got home I wrote the lyrics for the song in ten minutes and sent it to them. They will have to add the melody. I got a little taste of what Patrick and other writers do for a living.
Writing is fun, isn’t it? I didn’t write a lick under my own byline for years, back when I was a copy editor. Good thing, because otherwise I’d probably be burned out on it now. I just like playing around with the language.
Good people are checking out.
Willie is just about the last one standing.
Who’da thought Willie Nelson and Jimmy Carter would still be with us in 2024?
And can you blame them?
Damn, watching the soundtrack of my misspent youth pass away in the past 18 months is hard.
Man, I loved that song. Also “Me and Bobby McGee.”
I need a stiff drink. Blue screen of death today and spent most of the afternoon, after the power outage and cell phone outage, rebuilding the goddamn computer.
Bah. You guys lost power up to there? The winds have been howling like banshees come afternoon down here, but so far (knock wood) the lights are on and the Verizon outage hasn’t got us yet.
As for my 10-year-old MacBook with the FUBARed display, it’s working about as well as I can expect. Might be time to think about a newer model. Or moving to its 13-inch little brother, which would be a lot cheaper.
Also lost John Amos this week, and have yet to see one obit mention American Flyers.
Sheeyit, I wouldn’t want that in my obit either. I’d refuse to die until they took it out.
