O, brother. …

Some old traditions are worth revisiting.

I’ll spare you my “hot take” on the latest capitulation by the Democrats, noting only that if we were ever to get serious about governance in this Republic, we could revive the domestic splintery rail, tar, and feather industries in a fortnight. Maybe less.

Jesus H. Christ on a flatcar. I believe these eejits could fall into a barrel of tits and come out sucking their thumbs. Bringing a knife to a gunfight would be a remarkable escalation for this lot. A one-armed monkey could carve a better party out of a banana, using a single strand of al dente pasta.

Fuck these people. I’m going back to the commies. At least they go down swinging.

Meanwhile, to any who remain with the Jackasses: Primary ’em all, let God sort ’em out.

  1. How does it go? Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result? Must be the magnificent eight’s mode.

  2. Well, we have 535 party servants, with a sociopath sitting on top of them, running this shit show. The majority of people relying on SNAP and ACA subsidies and tax credits live in red states, mostly in Texas and Florida. So, stupid oughta hurt until they start voting smart. The rest of us have to suffer too, and hopefully it will piss off enough of us to get on the street at the next No Kings demonstration. You put 20 million on the streets in every congressional district, then party servants will notice. They gotta protect those phony baloney jobs, heh?

      1. I think I need a double feature today. First will be “Blazing Saddles” followed by “Strange Brew.” There, that’ll cheer the old bastard up! If I need some drama, I will watch Patrick’s favorite flick “American Flyer.” Up Patrick, up!

  3. I could hardly believe my own (D) senator stupidly voted with the other side this time. He’s retiring soon, so, good riddance. I guess he doesn’t care about health care, or food for the masses anymore either. Sad and disturbing. Are the Democrats becoming the old time Republicans now?

  4. I’m strongly ambivalent about this whole affair. The Dems took a big chance deciding this would be the hill they would be willing to die on. As General Paulus found out, sometimes the cavalry doesn’t get there on time. The only people who made it out of Stalingrad alive were the ones who got out early. Now, the Party Fratricide can begin. Just what we need. But this will play out next November, not right now.

The GOP would not necessarily care if government stayed shut down over a health care subsidy that they wanted to let terminate on schedule, so the question would be, who blinks first as the food lines get longer? I also suspect none of those 535 people in the two Houses of Uselessness would be out any SNAP benefits. They got their golden parachutes. Meanwhile, the food banks in New Mexico (and near U.S. bases in Europe, apparently) are in dire straits. Thankfully, our NM legislature ponied up a bunch of money just in case this shit show went on longer. Da wife and I put in our tithe as well.

It will be interesting to see who can use this shit show effectively during the mid terms. I tend to agree that the GOP promise to revisit the enhanced ACA subsidies once government is open and running (like an infected sore) is as reliable as believing Lucy will not pull that football away at the last minute.

A lot of people who were out of SNAP benefits, and who are about to be priced out of medical care, live in Red states. So as Patrick O’Brien said above, let some of those folks with MAGA hats feel the pain or, I suppose, proudly give up medical care. I think the present ACA system is an expensive disaster. We need single payer, and we need it now. Good luck with that. As Lorenzo’s wife was famous for saying, “people are stupid”.

      1. My favorite sentences?

The White House declined to provide more details of Mr. Trump’s latest idea. But the proposal assumes that giving patients a bigger role in purchasing their own care will lead to lower costs and better health outcomes.

The evidence that such an approach could significantly lower costs is not strong.

  5. As Khal stated so vividly “ once government is open and running (like an infected sore)” there’s festering aplenty ahead. The Nazis are ready with more World of Pain moves and there will be no “mark it 8 Dude” from Smokey who like us, had a weapon pulled on him in The Big Lebowski. Yes the Nazis will continue to cut their own taxes while cutting the throat of Democracy. It does seem Larry’s wife had us pegged alright.

  6. The two party system unfortunately seems to be now just a finger pointing game. So let’s get rid of it. Then we can just elect people who we think will get the job done. No more redistricting games. I’m fairly sick and tired of the “Democrats” or “Republicans” being blamed for everything that’s wrong. Something for the youngsters to move forward in the future. I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

    1. Choices: Would you rather get stomped by the Hell’s Angels or chain-whipped by the Gypsy Jokers? Buy your bacon and beans from Safeway or Albertsons? Alas, I fear there is no “good choice.” Only the “least bad” one.

But we did this to ourselves, and we keep right on doing it.

An extended rant on this topic may be forthcoming directly. Right now I’m caffeinating, medicating the cat, updating various OSes, trying very hard not to crank up the furnace, contemplating breakfast — Oatmeal? Yogurt? Another goddamn choice I don’t wanna make! — and selecting a suitable bicycle from the herd for today’s Geezer Ride.

      Stay tuned. …

      1. Oatmeal with bananas and Craisins, the 1/2 sugar variety, to sweeten it up and blow out the colon. Have the yogurt too!

        Take the Bianchi!

Register as an independent and mean it. Don’t respond to any political polls or questionnaires. Make the sumbitches mark every state purple. Give all incumbents every reason to believe their seat isn’t safe anymore.

        Rant concluded.

  7. Yessir Mr Clyde. Former effective Detroit Dem mayor is running for governor as an indy and I’ll wager he wins. But he has some $$backing from mostly disgruntled Dems. Yet I’ll bet billionaires will still fund Rethuglican Nazis. But that DOESN’T mean they win does it? I have a glimmer of hope since I was sure Obama was going to lose both times showing how little I know.

  8. Seems the Epstein shit has started again with a vengeance. Americans love a good scandal, and this one is world class. Adelita Grijalva just signed the petition, as her first official act, to force a house vote on requesting the DOJ immediately release ALL the Epstein files. Ketchup be flying in the White House dining room!
