Bit of that old election returns hangover, eh? I recall the night on Long Island when Reagan pounded Mondale. A bunch of us grad students from the geology dept were really drunk by the end of it and throwing dirty socks at the TV. I nearly missed a curve in the VW Rabbit, which would have put the car at 30 mph into Long Island Sound. I suppose had I done that, I could have run for the Senate from Massachusetts…..
So, now, CFP is one of them, eh? Hope he can stay away from the Dark Side. On the other hand, he can still LUG from his office. Those guys don’t start working until 10:00 or 11:00, on a good day.
Bad day to be a Democrat, but I’m glad to see our bicycle colleagues doing well. I still have my copy of Merrifield’s book “Colorado Gonzo Rides” that I bought in 1993 when I moved to Colorado. Lot of great rides in that book.
Mike’s a good guy. He was the onliest candidate in this election to actually drop by the house and ask for my vote. He was canvassing by bicycle, as you might expect.
The stupidity of yesterday really makes me think of just staying on this side of the Atlantic. Now we’ll get all kinds of crackpot legislation that Obama will have to veto…how does that improve things?
I’m “proud” that CO hit the 50% mark the same way I’m “proud” that we’re usually #1-2 in fitness (trading places with hawaii) with only one in four of us morbidly obese.
In many voter turnout reports they base the percentage on ballots cast vs registered voters. The report you link is a better one using eligible voters, which I assume they mean eligible whether registered or not. In the 2012 election, based on the 2010 census figures and 2012 registered voter data provided by the AZ Sec of State office, 25% of eligible Arizona voters were not registered.
Ya gotta hand to the Repugs…they’ve been very skilled at getting people to vote against their own self-interest. Like taxes on the 1%, Cletus and Brandeen think they might win the lottery one day, so they fear paying a lot of tax and vote to keep taxes low on the plutocrats. As a friend who lived in Arkansas for awhile used to say, – they’ll put a jar in the local Stop & Rob soliciting donations for lil’ Billy’s kidney transplant, all while screaming “keep the gummint out of my dadburn medicare!” and rejecting all kinds of that awful “socialism” that Caribou Barbie screeches about. I’m gradually starting not to care if these morons get the government they vote for but starting to resent it being forced on ME by these same knuckleheads.
According to this morning’s NPR, youth and minority voting was down precipitously, while middle aged white folks, i.e., the Cletus Spruckler vote, turned out in droves, which helps explain Iowa**. No one would ever think this was a backlash against that colored, Kenyan-socialist guy in the White House, eh?

It really makes me wonder how far the general public will go. down the road of self destruction. AFAIC, Caribou Barbie was just too dumb for her own good. There are smart political folks out there with plenty of resources, such as the Koch Bros.
And Schickelgruber only needed about 30% of the vote to take over. Lest I forget to invoke Godwin’s Law….
Little question of her being a bought-and-paid-for shill for the Koch Bros. I heard her stay screwball stuff like this during the Repug debates in Iowa and was amazed when she emerged the winner in the primary. But obviously the ‘Pugs knew what they were doing since she’ll be up there with ol’ Chuck Grassely now, representing the corporate powers that exploit Cletus and Brandeen out in the countryside of Ioway.

Mad Dog for president!
We’re gonna need a bigger parasol.
At least three of my bicycle pals won last night: Charles Pelkey, Chris Coursey and Michael Merrifield. So we got that going for us.

PELKEY WON! HOLY SHIT, THERE IS HOPE FOR THE WORLD!
Good on Charles! Is his plate finally full?
Yeah, that is one helluva resume, eh? And to go from Alan Simpson’s staff to holding office himself.
Too bad Colbert is moving on and he doesn’t do state offices on his Better Know a District. That would be a sublime interview.

How did that moron manage go win Iowa, Larry? Yeah, I know the answer. As your wife says….
khal – Which moron, we got two now. Shesh – I need more whiskey.
Dat pig lady, Ernst.
Oh… Pig-Ah-Boo Barbie. I wasn’t sure if it was her or King Of The Wingnuts.
Man, I see a picture of the two of them standing behind a wedding cake.
Speaking of stupidity, check out these numbers:

Good lord….talk about a lack of interest. Maybe the solution is to have an offer of a double cheeseburger and supersize soda to anyone who votes.

Ballad of this election.

And according to this

the Repugs even have the 1% voting and spending millions against their own self-interest! Their propaganda machine is truly amazing…proving once again what my wife always says?
