They love their cat towers. We have one in a bedroom and this one in the living room. Both provide a nice high perch, clawing facilities, and the opportunity to repel invaders, all things that cats enjoy.
But Mia will get into any bag, box, nook or cranny she can find. That’s a cat who knows how to have a good time.
My female cat would find a spot to perch, maybe sleep . My male cat never came up with spots of his own. He would just boot her out of every spot. It was ugly. Mia and Turk are much more companionable.
Just finished watching “Kill the Messenger”, a movie about the reporter who was smeared for exposing the CIA backed drug trade in the US in order to support Nicaraguan contras. Recommended!

I didn’t even know cats would use a contraption like that, don’t they usually (like kids) have more fun with the box it came in?

Well done sir! Our large feline has yet to take to the tower we got him, but I’m sure he’ll get around to it eventually.
