Betimes I fear the Ó Grádaighs intercoursed the penguin when they fled County Clare for Americay.
Were we still on the auld sod we’d be kings, or druids, lighting bonfires, rubbing up against the mistletoe and singing up the dawn on solstice instead of watching helplessly as brigands, highwaymen and landlords make off with every salable item in the Republic.
Well, maybe not. We’d probably be on the dole, trading our excess offspring for drink and stealing the neighbors’ pigs.
Still, damme if I feel like singing up the dawn on this side of the pond this morning. ‘Tis only the rising of the moon will have me tuning up so.

Happy Winter Solstice, all! 0928 MST for those who care…..so 40 minutes to go as I write this. This coming lap around the sun can only get better, eh??!!
Too much cloud cover here to fully observe the event at sunrise….not to mention 22 degrees (down from 55 here yesterday in the Bibleburg environs) and windy.
Cheers to all…..ride on!

Hey, even those effing Republicans will not ruin my winter solstice. At least not this year. Happy Darkness to all.

The fine Winter Solstice. You learn to celebrate it heartily when you live in the Great White North. The days of long darkness but beautiful sunrise and sunsets south along the Alaska Range begin to get longer. I’m immersed in cool fog and too far south to really appreciate this day.
The High Kings, “Rising of the Moon” through the ear buds on one of those jolly 19 percent grades……
Cheers to all this fine day !

I fear the Ó Grádaighs may have fucked up when they left the old country.
“Were we still on the auld sod we’d be kings, or druids, lighting bonfires, rubbing up against the mistletoe and singing up the dawn on solstice instead of watching helplessly as brigands, highwaymen and landlords make off with every salable item in the Republic.”
Think Ireland may let us back in?

I’m pretty sure they won’t let the Ó Grádaighs back in unless we reimburse the neighbors for all those pigs we stole. Up front. Cash only. No checks.

I think may part of the Ua Briain clan should have immigrated to New Zealand instead of the US. Then I would have the Dumpster large and in charge, and I wouldn’t be freezin’ my ass off. 24 degrees this morning.

We celebrated the solstice with a 40+ mile ride from Cambria down to Cayucos then inland over some steep climbs, coming back the way we went out a few days ago. Now to further celebrate with some pasta with fresh pesto and grilled ahu tuna steaks. Happy Holidays!

A sub-20-mile tour of some Duke City backwaters with a neighbor here. He showed me an interesting catchment basin that would make a suitable cyclocross course, and if the temps dip I plan to roll over there and chase myself up and down the hills.
